Our SaaS now has 32 early users thanks to a tweet by IH

Yesterday, I was working on the new marketing site for Browse AI when I noticed a bunch of notifications appearing one after another on my phone.

The first one was “You were mentioned on Twitter by @IndieHackers”

The next 3 were early user sign up notifications.

Wait...whaaaat

Turns out IH tweeted this out of nowhere, 3 weeks before our launch when we really need more early users (we had 25 people signed up before this).

I opened Google Analytics. There were 4 people on the site and ~10 people had visited the site in the last 10 minutes.

So unexpected! I video called Amir (the software engineer I work with) and told him about it.

On one hand, we were super happy about it. On the other hand, we wished the tweet had come out a week later after we built and launched the new site. Cause what we had on the 3 month old landing page was just a confusing demo.

I decided to release the work-in-progress marketing site right away. I was working on a How It Works page that was much more clear than the previous demo.

Needless to say, it took 2 hours and multiple broken releases (which probably made us lose some users!) but we managed to do it.

Looking at the stats now, it's not clear if the release increased the conversion, because most of the visits happened before the release. But the tweet drove 78 users to our site and 7 of them signed up. That's a great conversion rate! Plus, we reached our goal of 30 early users.

One interesting thing to note from the stats: A lot of those users visited our Sign Up page, which means they wanted to sign up, but when they found out the product isn't released yet they decided not to. Previously, my assumption was anybody who’s interested would sign up. Now I think there are two groups of interested people:

• one are so interested they want to try the app as soon as it’s released, and
• one that either aren’t as interested to wait a while for the release, or would only be interested in a super stable and reliable product that’s been out for a while.
