The idea for SavvyNomad sparked when one of our co-founders, Jameson, was on a nomadic journey in Morocco. While there, he crossed paths with a group of surfers from California who had been living abroad for years with no plans to return to the U.S., but were struggling to make the U.S. tax system adapt to their new lifestyle. Jameson, who is from Nevada — a state with zero income taxes — had studied accounting extensively at Northwestern University and knew there had to be a better way for Americans abroad to manage their taxes.
With his brother, a full-time RVer and fellow CPA, Jameson realized that while there were some solutions for RVers and domestic travelers, no one was addressing the unique tax needs of expats and digital nomads. That’s when the vision for SavvyNomad was born — a service designed to help American nomads and expats legally reduce their tax burden by moving their residency to states with zero income tax.
Really interesting backstory! The tax challenges for digital nomads and expats are such a headache, so it’s cool to see a solution tailored for them. Did you find that most of your early users were already aware of the tax benefits of moving residency, or was there a lot of education involved in onboarding them?
Love the idea — helping nomads and expats navigate taxes is a huge pain point that’s often overlooked.
One thing to watch: if any of your APIs or integrations for tax calculations or filings fail silently, users could face serious issues before realizing there’s a problem.
We built PageMon to send instant alerts via Slack, Discord, or email whenever APIs or webhooks fail. Could help keep SavvyNomad reliable and give users peace of mind.
Not from the US - but love to see some fellow Nomads be successful. I am headed out on my European CEO Van life adventure in a few weeks (van has already been purchased). So, cheers to the one's who can do both!

That's a fantastic origin story. Solving a real problem you stumble upon firsthand is the best way to start a business. The value for nomads is incredibly clear.
As the brand grows, how are you thinking about the creative side of things? A really professional look and feel seems so important for a service that handles something as sensitive as taxes and building that initial trust.
Great idea, and looking forward to seeing it grow
