Outdoor Sports Locations API
I am planning to build out an API, called Bounce is used to find outdoor sports location such as basketball courts, tennis courts, and soccer fields. The API will be able to support spatial queries for applications that need specific data in an area. For example, a map that needs to load the nearest basketball courts from a user.
When travelling to a new location or going on vacation, I found it difficult to find outdoor basketball courts to play at because they are not listed on Google, and existing basketball apps do not have near the amount of actual courts there are. I want to build this API for developers to be able to use to build there own applications on top of the API.
The API will be used to find nearby sports facilities from a certain location as well as address, description, and other information such as support for rating a court. I was wondering if there is a market for an API like this or if developers would pay to build on top of it. Part of me thinks this is a very small niche, but there isn't any easy to use services where a developer could build an app around the API in under a day that could utilize the sports location data.

This is a very great idea. And very useful for people like me who travel a lot because of my job and I use to stay in different cities for up to two weeks. And would like to have an app that could show me where I can go to throw some balls in the basketball hoop.

I often try to find basketball courts like that too. A few years ago I worked on an app to mark spots that would be visible to other users but it didn't get much traction. It was similar to what the lists in Google Maps do now. Perhaps if you just do the API like you are saying it's more viable as a product.
Also, I think google maps is getting better when I ask about basketball courts, at least here in London. I am not sure if it's because people are labelling them or because they finally started applying computer vision to detect patterns on their satellite imagery 🤷♂️
