Packstack Manifesto

We all understand the therapeutic nature of being immersed in Earth's rugged, raw beauty, even if we've only experienced it briefly.

The problem is that it's difficult to trade in our familiar comforts for an encounter with an unpredictable environment. Planning an excursion into the wild is an intimidating process.

Fortunately, brave souls have forged the paths before us.

Packstack's objective is to provide a comprehensive tool that helps explorers plan their expeditions as well as serving as a public directory of packing lists.

Every expedition requires a set of equipment. In some cases, such as backpacking, the gear you bring is essential to keeping you safe.

The problem is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all packing list since each expedition raises its own unique challenges, such as weather conditions, temperature, access to water and duration.

In order to prepare for a challenging venture into nature, you have to get detailed not only about what you're bringing but also consider how much each item weighs. Each item packed comes with a cost-benefit analysis. Packstack is designed with this process in mind.

For someone new to this process, it can be an overwhelming experience. That's why Packstack aims to have a public directory of packing lists for specific destinations. By reviewing what others have brought on similar trips, you can make better decisions about what you may want to bring as well.

The purpose of all of this is to make it easier to explore our world with confidence.

The beta version of Packstack can be found at https://packstack.io/. I'm currently in the process of revamping the entire system so that it's easier to share, or find, packing lists for specific trips.
