PageSpeed Insights - what's your mobile score?
Is it tough to have a good score with mobile PageSpeed Insights or did I miss something?
I checked a few top pages and they are below 40-30. I can go above 30 mostly because of a JS lib and external tools like GA, HotJar, LiveChat etc.
What do you think? Any tips here?
It usually depends on your CMS, for example HubSpot sites tend to perform pretty poorly (it's a very common complain on their forums). Wordpress too depending on the theme/plugins you use.
I tend to take site speed with a grain of salt though, a score of 100 on desktop is pretty much impossible, 70-90 on desktop is honestly pretty good compared to most websites. Mobile usually scores lower, so you can bump those ranges down to get an idea of what's decent.
Google cares about site speed, but not as much as they care about a functional site with authoritative and useful content.
If there's a way to minify your JS and optimize how external scripts load then that's your best bet. That and compressing + lazy loading images can lead to some speed wins.
You're certainly right about the fact that most websites perform pretty poorly and that people overestimate how much performance matters for SEO, but getting 90+ on both desktop and mobile is totally doable if the site is actually built with performance in mind.
Most sites only end up being slow because performance probably wasn't a huge priority to begin with, and then they end up totally wrecking their performance with a million external scripts for stuff like analytics and ads.
Thanks. I achieved ~45-50 for mobile and ~80-90 for the web.
I moved all external JS scripts to the footer and added a timeout for them - this helped a bit. I followed all the recommendations from Insights and I fixed some errors.
Unfortunately, I can't go further without changing Js library, I use vuetify and the performance there it's not great.
No idea how big an impact it has on SEO, probably it has some. I have some errors in Google Search Console and it's really hard to fix it now.
No problem, that's a pretty decent score. Especially on desktop.
I wouldn't stress it since you've done all you can do.
I coach people on SEO and I've found people tend to stress page speed more than it's worth. As long as your site is loading fast enough when you test it manually, and gets a decent score on pagespeed insights you're fine.
It's more important that your site is structured properly for SEO, can be crawled, and has good, authoritative content that serves your audience.

I just don't like warnings in Google SEO console :) I'm getting them because of the mobile speed.
Fun fact, I checked some of Google pages and the result are not so great :D
