I have identified a growing B2B niche that this could work well in, along the lines of The Information, Trends, CB Insights and others with an annual fee of $250-350 to access exclusive articles and audios.
This idea taps into both the growing niche and the ideological shift of paying for good valuable content that's hard or impossible to find elsewhere.
Has anyone tried to build something like this or been involved in one, and if so:
What did you learn about it from the inside that wasn't so obvious at the start?
What do I need to watch out for?
What No Code tools would work well for this? (Supercast is perfect for the audio element, would be amazing to have a way to stop or discourage people sharing logins for the whole platform the way Supercast does for audio).
Thank you so much!
Ps my 1st post here so apologies if I've made any faux pas :)
Ha! That is very interesting timing. I totally see a growing market for paid value-add content rather than the freebie newsletter.
This is why I am about to launch the Early Venture Report (https://gum.co/early-venture-report), I literally finished the gumroad page today. My newsletter is about bringing value by aggregating other 3rd party content. A little different from your idea perhaps, but the underlying concept is that I am giving you value that takes my time and I am also saving you time, therefore there should be a reasonable cost to it. I believe we will see more of this and you are right to see it as a growing niche - go for it!
To answer your other question, at first it will be easy for people to share my emails. But I aim to move it to a platform I built myself for another project which will send all links as redirects via my own domain. The user will need to be logged in otherwise the redirect to the 3rd party content will fail. I am not sure if there are any no-code solutions that can offer this. Perhaps I should offer my platform ;-)
Thank you Steve - very interesting indeed!
To clarify - I see the paid newsletter industry as a growing niche and I have identified a growing B2B niche to focus this on - so it would be riding two waves :)))
In terms of discouraging sharing logins, someone must be working on this. I'd imagine it's not so hard to e.g. have a system that can detect simultaneous logins from two IP addresses etc.
I don't see it as a major thing to worry about as I really don't think people are generally paying $250+ for content and then sharing it beyond maybe 1-2 ppl, but just a consideration as I do my due diligence and something to tighten the business up with later.
sounds like the surf is up!!
