Paid slack group for music producers?

Thinking of launching a paid slack group focused on music production. I am a producer myself, and am active in some forums and FB groups talking about everything from gear to collab opportunities. I could see slacks real time communication offering a much better platform for this type of stuff. Thoughts?

I think it's a good idea, but if you're at the beginning of your journey, it would be better for you to work with free services. You can just communicate in a messenger, share download links to share scetches or something like that, and once you become bigger, you can think about a paid slack group for music production.

I never found aspiring music producers to be a monetizable audience. Has that changed in the last few years?

What experiences have you had that make you say that?

For me I see two sides to it...

I'd bucket myself into the aspiring/hobbiest music producer bucket and there are a lot of services I pay for on subscription...they tend to be directly related to music creation...Splice, Landr, Distribution platforms. I am also pretty active in groups on FB, Reddit, Etc.

That said, there is something too that fact that struggling musicians/artists are generally cash strapped...so maybe I should ignore my passion for the space, and consider a more profitable niche.

Yes and no. I think it could be beneficial to some wannabe producers and those just starting out, but I also think you're going to find some pretty serious competition with several subreddits dedicated to production, gear and collaboration.

Personally, I like the concept, but I think you'll have a hard time balancing monetization and membership growth.

Good feedback...ya lots of SubReddits, FB Groups, etc.

Part of my hypothesis is that a paid community would attract a higher level of producer...the free communities I am a part of get BOMBARDED by link spamming artists from all around the world.

You might be 100% right. If it’s your passion, go for it. 👍
