Pappai.it - 1 Italian recipe at week via email
Hi everybody,
I'm currently launching a service which sent you one Italian recipe at week via email. The idea born to the needs, for someone, to learn some Italian recipe.
At now I'm validating the idea through a landing page, and a simple recipe, which you can find at http://pappai.it.

I would consider subscribing, but not paying for it.
If you were a Michelin starred chef, possibly a paid subscription might work, but lack of info on the site tells me you are not.
Logical monetisation route for this would be offer free in order to grow the audience.
Then once the audience hits a critical mass work in some ads, sponsored promotions or relevant affiliate products.
If you found majority of your users were in 1 location, an ingredient pack from a local supermarket could be a good revenue stream, but hard to do that on a global scale.

I thought about ingredients pack like you suggest but the conclusion is the same you spoke about.
I totally agree! You could use it to grow your audience, then sell products to them. It seems to be a nice strategy. And if you allow me another suggestion, you could improve the website design, to make it more professional.

The recipe is a little plain (I know it's pasta!) But some images and step by step would be better. Also I would prefer to have them in a link I can refer to vs a PDF file I need to go back into the specific machine I downloaded to. The website could have more information around the kind of dishes I'll be getting (Italian Cuisine is massive) and some pictures of the dishes to increase my hunger (pun intended) to subscribe.
Like someone mention, the price point is a little high, specially if I don't know what I'm exactly subscribing to, also am I paying for the recipes (I can get them for free elsewhere, don't know if they are unique) or I am paying for the comfort of getting them delivered to my inbox? (5USD for 4 emails or 4 recipes feels expensive). Have you thought about the value people are expecting to get and focus your selling proposition and landing page on that?
I think the general idea is good, people are always looking for new recipes and will be willing to pay to avoid effort.
I was thinking about a free subscription and then monetize with ads, sponsor etc BUT the insertion of advertising is always something that can brother people, how many of you are willing to receive advertising?
Perfectly happy to receive ads, as long as it's done respectably.
Ideally should be relevant to topic/audience and not too in your face.
Ads on a paid product devalues it but on a free product are generally understood and accepted.
The real question is how many people are willing to pay up to $60 per year for 12 recipes of unknown quality. Not me.
A hardback recipe book from a world renowned chef has more content at a fraction of the price.
Google has infinite supply for free, with reviews and ratings before you commit.
Countless ways you can monetise if you grow an audience, proving or delivering value before payment is key to that. Premium content area, youtube channel, cooking books, build a name for your own restaurant, ads, sponsorship, affiliate products, sell data, online courses with just a few moments thought.

There would have to be something very special about the recipe or the author to justify the price.
If it were free I would sign up, no doubt.
