Passed 1000 email subscribers for my newsletter. Here's what worked

A couple of months ago, I made a much more concerted effort to grow my email list. Today, I've officially passed the 1,000 subscribers list.

Here's the 3 main strategies that worked:

Content partnerships.

For instance, I have a blog about evergreen funnels. Instead of just writing the blog and sharing my own experiences with evergreen funnels, I broke down someone else's funnel.

She was so excited about how the post turned out that she shared it to her email list and Facebook group.

That one decision netted me 60 or so email subscribers... when I was starting with about 50 or so. So that doubled my list almost overnight.

Ranking for longer tail keywords.

I'm in the marketing space, which for SEO purposes absolutely sucks! I built 140 links to a post called "how to promote your blog" and I'm still on page 2. Ugh.

However, I do rank for keywords that have much less search volume, required much fewer links and drive a steady stream of monthly traffic now.

For instance, I do rank for the keyword evergreen funnels (the post above), and while it only has a search volume of 250 according to ahrefs, it probably drives about 300-400 visitors a month and converts 5% into email subscribers.

Individually, these keywords don't account for tons of email subscribers. But in aggregate, they'll add 70 to 100 or so per month.

It's not a ton, but I'll keep adding more longer tail keywords while I build links to my other, more competitive posts.

Lead magnet swaps.

This has been by far the best accelerator of list growth for me.

Basically, I ask people to promote my lead magnet to their list in exchange for me promoting theirs.

I started doing this at about 500 subscribers. And I've almost doubled my list size in 2 months with this strategy alone.
