Passed $22k 💵 in revenue after blood, sweat and tears

After blood, sweat, and tears I can say that JobBoardSearch 🔎 passed $22k 💵 in revenue 🥳

Is not a lot but is honest money earned from my home office

With around 95% profit you could live out of this in many countries

JobBoardSearch is a directory of job boards (408 on the list and around 100 on the waiting list)

It has a meta feature and pulls jobs from jobs boards with API or RSS feed (Around 50 at the moment of writing) which I render within each listing.

Also, I created multiple bots that cross-post the jobs to multiple channels that I'm growing: a Telegram group (categorized in topics) with 6300 members, a subreddit with 4400 members, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Also, the newsletter has grown to 5700 subs.

The bigger source of traffic is word of mouth, accounts with even 1/2M followers keep mentioning it, so a viral loop gets generated, collected 100s of them on the Wall of Love ❤️

This way I generate a lot of traffic so is appealing for job board founders to get listed.

How do I generate the revenue?

  1. Sponsored job board, 3 per month (The bigger source of income).
  2. Premium listings (Highlight 🌟, Sticky on Top 📌, Custom brand color highlight 🟢).
  3. Ad slots (Any product that is not a job board)
  4. PPC job posts

How do I promote?
Mostly thanks to building in public on Twitter, there are a lot of job board founders there! I don't do any cold outreach (I think I should!)

Thanks so much for reading 🙏🏽

And happy to answer any questions if you have any!

I'm Rod, building multiple projects in public 😀

Great ! I am all in to building things that already worked. We as solopreneur cannot really afford to spend time on market validation and even if we do the result will not be as great as we would expected.

The best way I found is build something we already know will work and improve on top of it. That way you know the market exists and explaining to user is much more easier. They already know what to expect from the product and we also have clear understanding what to create.

Congratulations! Twitter is definitely the place to get high-quality traffic.

Could you share when did you get the first money from the project?

Nice! Had no other job site done this before (combined the 400 boards)?

I don't know. I did it because when StackOverflow Jobs shut down I saw a lot of people asking about alternatives, so in 5 hours I built a scrappy MVP and put it online, tweeted about it, and turns out that there was a lot of interest.

      Thanks a lot Jeremy!

Yeah, there are job boards everywhere nowadays, but that's the catch for me, I'm building a directory of job boards :)
