Path to the #1 spot of the App Store

Update: WE MADE IT TO THE #1 spot!

Hi IH!

😔 Today we launched Top Nine on Product Hunt. The launch went bad.

💪 Regardless, I honestly believe that in the course of the upcoming 30 days, we will be able to make Top Nine go viral, and maybe reach the #1 spot of the App Store once again.

📈 For context, we made it to the #1 spot of the App Store every year in NYE, acquiring 15 million users overall.

🤓I'm an engineer. I learned product growth and marketing by reading and learning from others' successes.

✍️ That's why I want to share every step of the process as we attempt to make it viral again.

🤗 I don’t consider myself an expert, just want to help other makers and creators grow.

The recipe to make Top Nine viral has many ingredients:

✅ Product Hunt

  • SEO
  • ASO
  • Email marketing
  • Influencers
  • Product design
  • PR
  • Ads
  • A lot of luck

I can't share tips on how to get lucky, but I can talk about what we do on each of the other growth efforts.

Today I would like to start a DAILY newsletter sharing each of our growth efforts, at least DAILY for the next 30 days. I'll include as many details as possible, including email campaigns, A/B tests, etc.

I genuinely believe that watching all our efforts in real-time will be a big learning experience, and will be much better than a "HOW WE MADE IT TO THE #1 SPOT OF THE APP STORE" post. I don't know if we will be able to make it this year, but the efforts will be the same as in previous years.

Writing a daily newsletter will require a lot of effort, so I would like to know if there will be interest in this.

Please comment below if you're interested in this, and if that's the case I'll make it happen.

By the way, it'll be a free newsletter.

Great Jared! If we manage to make it to #1, I believe it'll be a great learning experience for anyone willing to grow a product, and to me, it'll be a fulfilling experience.

I'll reply later today again if this post gains interest. So far it doesn't look like 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Definitely interested!!

Awesome! Let's see if the post gets more visibility. So far there's not that much interest.

  3. 1

interested - especially in organic growth

I'm always interested in growth, although I have a deep allergy for indie devs doing consumer apps haha. I hit the top of the app store in my category a couple times and I honestly have little interest in doing it again-- the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze for what I was doing. I'd rather make more dollars selling fewer units as an indie.

    But.

I am always always always interested in growth.

What app hit #1, by the way.
