A lot of servers market towards server owners that want to run a dedicated server on a month-by-month basis. It would be cool if you could pay for what you use and market towards a more casual player-base that wants to play with some pals for a few hours then turn the server off. Less set up for the user and cheaper than running dedicated for a month at a time
If I'm not mistaken, you can already do that. You only pay for what you are using. It's very comfortable for people like me who don't spend that much on the game. I'm kind of a casual player as I only play it when I got some free time, and I don't know what to do. It happens like 2-3 times per week. Every time I spend like one hour in the game, not more. Mostly I play on these servers https://www.servers-minecraft.org/minecraft-servers-prison/. I mean, Minecraft prison servers, that's something exciting, ain't it?
As far as I know, there are different hosting of Minecraft servers, so they do this:) However, if you already want to buy some big Minecraft server from a similar list https://minecraft.buzz/category/rpg, for 64 players or more, then the prices there are much higher. After all, plugins are installed there, and so on. In general, such projects always have programmers who make updates for the server. As far as I know, the purchase of projects, that is, ready-made servers for Minecraft, is quite common. I hope I have explained everything to you and you will agree with my answer. I was as brief as possible, so goodbye:)
You might want to check out https://swiftcube.net/ – it's something I've been working on as a side project. It is still in development but feel free to sign up to get early access as soon as it is ready!
It would be a great thing to have the minecraft account here. https://freeaccountsgen.com/
Hey, @meantub, this seems like a really interesting idea. Do you mind sharing the sort of sites you use now for hosting servers? If you had some people you knew in the community that would be interested in testing it out, I could try and put together a small test product for this.
The Minecraft server hosting scene is pretty developed and there is a lot of competition. The largest and most advertised host is probably mcprohosting. There are alternatives that try to win the price/month game like ggservers. There are a ton of small hosts too, just look up "Minecraft Server Hosting" and you'll have a list of a bunch.
The problem is that I don't actually know exactly what community of people to go after. Since most people that use a hosting provider are probably looking to use it for the long term. The target market in my eyes is the hard part about this idea. Which is why I posted it to see if anybody else thought it was a good idea.
My guess though is that if you appeal to a casual playerbase such as those that would choose to use Minecraft Realms (the product that Minecraft sells inside their own games) then this idea might work since they'd effectively be paying less especially for the time that they wouldn't be on.
The good thing though is that even if we were to target server owners then we still have a pretty big market because there are already so many options, you can tell that one more wouldn't be out of the question.
That would be cool if I could work on it with you together for sure, but finding a target market is probably is probably the priority if we want a success with this idea.
