So we've been working on integrating Paypal for our customers for a few weeks now. It's been a really horrible experience. The docs are confusing, incomplete, and very inconsistent (at times contradictory). Technical support is really bad too (and the integration is quite clunky) and very error-prone. A segment of our customers would still like to use it tho as their payment processor tho.
Is it really worth the effort and the many customer support tickets that I'm sure will follow? Or should we simply cut our losses and move on? Are there any strong advocates for Paypal here?
I have used PayPal for one of my projects, the simplest version, with just adding JS code to the site. And that was a painful experience.
Next time I will definitely use something else. Stripe, probably.
Strongly advise you to stay away from Paypal if you can. We have very experienced developers. For simple JS code on your website that might just do the trick, but beyond that, it's really bad for developers. And our businesses who use Stripe get so much more from Stripe than they do from Paypal. We actually ended up just dropping the integration for good. It was a massive integration, in the 7 digits yearly income for them. After a quick search on the web, you'll realize how bad their developer support and documentation are. It's just a waste of time, unfortunately.
I am actually considering Stripe for some time now, this has just solidified my decision. Thanks Ahmed!
You bet
Actually, another reason for me switching to Stripe now is because I can't remove a mobile phone field, required by PayPal.
I don't want my potential customers to enter mobile phones when paying. It is both unnecessary and frustrating for users.
You can follow youtube videos or any article about this. Youtube video tutorial can help you with this. Please don't worry, try again and again.
Thanks, Arafat!
