Percentages.io - Another case study

Spent some time in the last 10 days building this side project. The goal, as always, is to rank for long tail keywords regarding percentage problems (ie: what is 40% of 95).

Have submitted many sitemaps to Google, we'll see how it goes!

Cheers

Would love a follow up post with your traffic and learnings.

Do the example questions rotate for link juice?

Hey Josh, the site is now getting around 1k uniques per day and is earning about $60 USD per month. Hopefully the number continue to go up!

As a reference, I launched https://unitconversion.io in November and it has over 1k users per day now (similar concept).

I rotate them for no particular reason :) They're randomly generated on page load.

nice work! Would there be a benefit in finding which of those questions are most common, and including them to get traffic from those keywords?

Thanks Josh! I think that any benefit from this sort of tactic would be minimal. On any given day, there are hundreds of pages visited on my sites that have never been seen by anyone before. Many of the pages will have one or zero views in their entire lifetime. There are maybe a few queries that have had a few hundred visits (out of 100k visits since launching the site). It's very long tail and specific queries.

ah makes sense. Glad you are thinking through the marketing! Most people just post and hope. :)

Cool project. What is the end goal of this project after it ranks for the long tail keywords?

Similarly, uninconversion.io is pretty cool as well. What is your goal with it now?

    Thanks!

The goal is ultimately to have a lot of traffic and monetize with ads. This seems to be a lousy business model in general, but these sites are really designed to provide the most passive type of income. Goal one day would be to sell these sites to someone who has more time to look after and improve them. Also my design skills are terrible and I do literally no SEO. Someone could probably improve it.

I appreciate your response. IMHO, these sites of yours look nice and clean. I wish you best of luck on these cool projects.

I'm confused about the strategy of ranking on Google for this. Google does arithmetic like this natively, so users don't really have a reason to click any of the links: https://imgur.com/rNNj4Bb

Hey, I share your confusion. I can't really explain it, but I have other sites (like https://unitconversion.io) that prey on the same style of keywords (ie: what is 50cm in inches) and it get's tons of traffic. In short, I don't know why users click on the links, but they do. Maybe people are just used to navigating to websites when they use Google search and prefer it that way.

Oh that's interesting. If it works, seems like a sweet deal because there's zero maintenance work.
