I'm interested in working at a handful of companies (opportunistically job searching) but refreshing their career pages every couple weeks for relevant roles is incredibly time consuming. Figured other people might have a similar frustration or just want to better track the companies they're interested in...
Think of it as, a Scott's Cheap Flights for jobs that ONLY pings you when relevant jobs at the places you're interested in pop up. What do you think?
LinkedIn allows you to customize notification on a daily, weekly basis per role, company or other aspects. There are also companies running regular newsletter such as Remote Job Club, Remotive, Angel List etc.
Would love to hear how to change the market and make it better. @yangczhao Happy to exchange ideas/
Yep, I just always found the recurring, weekly newsletters to be spammy / not relevant. I think there are a couple ways to take this - make it more personalized, narrow in scope, discovery-oriented, etc.
Just sent you a LinkedIn connection to discuss!
Well received. Let's bounce ideas or schedule a digital coffee @yangczhao
For some idea validation, https://medium.com/workroll they built something like that in the past (now they pivot, I think they built ATS).
They have $2000 MRR before pivot
When I was looking to get a job as a teacher, this was an issue for me. Teaching positions are very location-driven, and schools don't always advertise their postings everywhere. (In fact, when they already have a hire, but legally have to post a job, I believe they generally just do it on their own jobs page.)
At one point, I scraped every school website in Michigan, and compiled a list of jobs pages so that I could click through them faster. In retrospect, if I were making a product, I would diff the pages to check for updates.
In any case, you might look towards careers which are very location-driven/dependent, like teaching, for customers.
Thanks, this is exactly what I was thinking in terms of checking for updates! Was going to target college students for the time being but I think your insight into teaching is super interesting...
I think this is smart, because most people are less active and more passive about which opportunities they view.
Thanks! Since people are active vs. passive depending on their situation, I guess more research is needed to determine a proper monetization strategy...
