I started a weekly tech newsletter back in August. I currently post it to Reddit, Hacker News, Medium, Hackernoon, Twitter, and various Facebook groups depending on it's relevance to the group or subreddit. This week I also created a substack for it (https://console.substack.com/), since I feel the idea has been validated on some level and I'll continue with it. It's making a few dollars a month from the premium readers on Medium and I'm looking to start experimenting with some ads with this spare change.
Is Facebook the best place to do this? Does anyone have any other suggestions? My idea was to experiment with this every month (so try advertising on Facebook one month maybe Twitter the next, etc) but if anyone has done something similar and can save me the time and effort from their learnings that would be great!
I've had a tough time getting FB to work for growing newsletter subscribers, so I'd also be interested in hearing if people have gotten that to work at a relatively low CPA.
My suggestion would be a referral program with your existing subscribers - they already know and can vouch for the value you provide, they know people that share their interests, and they can put your product into their friend's inbox. Whatever you might put into ads, you could channel into prizes or rewards for most referral sign-ups. It'd also give you an insight into your most enthusiastic readers + fans if you wanted to talk to customers.
This is a brilliant idea! Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the advice!
How much is a reader 'worth' for you?
If you have to pay $0.50 for 1 lead and the lead is worth more, you should do it.
I did some testing with Facebook lead ads and a lead cost around $0.50 (travel niche).
