Platform to showcase Indie products as an alternative to existing products
Think of a platform where you could list your indie projects as an alternative to well known products.
Building a communications tool? List it as an alternative to Slack, Zoom
Building an analytics product? List it as an alternative to Google analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.
Building heatmap generator? List it next to hotjar and the likes
How will it be useful for you as Indiehackers?
- People will understand your idea better by relating it to already existing products that they might have used
- People looking for alternatives for big shot tools will be able to discover your tool faster
- People specifically looking to support indie products would be able to find an indie alternative and discover you

I'm using AlternativeTo, Product Hunt and G2 for this purpose, how'd you like to differentiate your product?
There are already a few strong SEOes sites that answer "alternative to X" questions, one can probably post products there....
Not sure another one/dedicated one is needed..
I kind of agree with you. It was just a dreamy idea that came to mind without a lot of research about the already existing things.
I am surprised I did not go ahead and look for an existing alternative for the alternative idea I proposed :D
I've actually built something similar. If you describe your startup as "alternative to google analytics" you can find it by searching for these terms.
From my experience, it really takes a lot of effort to build such a list. It's not too hard to find people who want to list their product, but it is super hard to find people who are looking for software. You'll need a great marketing strategy here.

I would list my products.
But I'm not sure what reach such a list could have. It may appeal to customers who value certain principles, such as open source, supporting independent creators, or ethical marketing. But probably not a general consumer audience.
That's absolutely right. This is something too specific and it will be difficult to find such audience at a volume for it to be beneficial for the products listed on it.
