Please destroy my MVP site!

Hi everybody! I just launched the MVP for my latest project, nameea.com. Please tear it apart and let me know what I can do better!

nameea.com is a hand curated list of premium and brandable domain names that won't break the bank.

It took about 3 days to put together the site into an embarrassing MVP. To help speed up the process, I used an old site template I purchase like a year ago back when I was using still bootstrap. But I have since switched to Tailwind for all my projects. I also ended up using parts of a PHP SaaS framework I have been working on too.

A few things I am already thinking about adding/updating include:

  • make a self server checkout process with Strip and Namecheap APIs
  • add actual search abilities
  • eventually switch to Tailwind (I like Tailwind way better than Bootstrap)
  • make the mobile version better
  • improve the SEO of the pages

Tear this thing apart! Any and all feedback is welcome please

PS: If you see a domain name that sparks your interest let me know :)

    Hey @nickfrosty

The first thing I'd like to understand is - what is your primary goal?

Is your #1 goal to get people to buy your domains or sign up for the newsletter?

At the moment, I'm not 100% sure.

On the design front, there are a few issues.

I don't have a screenshot but for me on Chrome, the logo and the hero text are so close that the name of your site flows into the copy, which makes it read a little strangely.

In the hero, the illustration of the hero doesn't represent the product. It looks like it's there just to have an illustration.

Your use of emojis in place of text content create a cognitive disruption. You have to stop for split second to reconcile what the emojis represent and then read it again as a continuous message.

This also poses an accessibility issue. There are lots of people out there who have cognitive issues who will struggle with those emojis. I recommend that you drop those and just use text. They're cute but can end up causing you problems.

Overall, I recommend picking one ideal customer and write for them. Tell them what the benefit of your service is. Only after you get that message should you add design flare to the site.

    Hello @nickfrosty,

As a frontend developer a few things stood out to me:

    1. "your very best email" can be shortened and capitalized to "Your best email", sounds more punchy :)
    2. When I see underlined text("brandable", "available", ...), they look like links, but they are not links. Perhaps you meant to bold them instead?
    3. I tried to select text on the main page https://nameea.com/ and the website moved as if I'm swiping the page. Not sure if this is the intended effect.

Where are you getting the colorful icons from? The ones per domain. I like them a lot :D

Thanks for the your design inputs!

      1. I can see why that could be better
      2. I plan on making them stand out some other way. But I am not sure exactly how I want to do it. Any suggestions?
      3. The swiping is not intended, I thought I had fixed that! :)

I get all of my icons from flaticon.com. They are free to use if you have a premium account for like $8 a month or if you give credit and link to them. They have soooooo many icons available. I love them! I use them for all my projects since I am not very good at making images.

Hi Nick, interesting idea. Is the list currently hand-curated? Or do you have some algorithm to generate these?

I guess there are two possible audiences for your product:

    1. People who are looking for a name for their product
    2. People who like to buy domain names

You might need completely different approach to attract these groups.

Is screenbud your tool? If so, I have some quick feedback for you as a first time user. If you are interested :)

Hi, yes it is. Would love to hear your feedback! I have an email address set in my profile.

Sorry about the late response, but I just emailed you!

The list is fully hand curated and it will stay that way! I agree with the different audiences. And I believe I will have some overlap in the marketing efforts to get each, but I will have to do certain different things for their eyes.

Thanks for the feedback. I will take a look though it :)
