I see a lot of people focusing on pageviews as a metric and I feel deeply sorry because pageviews are nothing else than an ego boost. Pageviews are just an example of vanity metrics and we all should be aware of this trap. Please be careful.
Unless your revenue is literarily calculated at $ / thousand impressions.
I look at page views like a necessary step in a staircase. Let's say there are 3 steps in total. Knowing how many make it to the 1st one is important in predicting how many will make it all the way to the 3rd. Also paying attention to the overall volume is an additional indicator to show if what you are doing is working/not working. I don't really consider it a vanity thing at all, unless you regularly share this metric with people with the intent of impressing people.
BTW in my conversations with actually successful business people w/ exits, I have had the experience of saying "we make apps blah blah..." and people somewhat disregarding that comment as unimportant. If I tweak that sentence and say "we make apps that have {large number} weekly users blah blah..." their ears perk up and suddenly they are interested. You need to know your audience. Sometimes these things come in handy.
yeah, I have the same perspective!
So.. it's ok if the only ones who hits the site is you and the (google)bot?

While pageviews on their own are not a great way to measure your marketing strategy effectively, they still play a role in understanding how performance is going.
You can glean lots of insights from pageviews.
In my opinion, pageviews look good on paper but without a context, they have no use. If you don't know their persona, cohort group, or why they visit, then pageviews are useless.
Just like any other form of aggregate data, right/

if you run a content business than view/conversion is also more important than pageviews
I disagree @emiratli248. Every business is different.
I respect your idea @indigoblue :)

I agree with the first statement completely. Most of the time, there is no universal truth that can be conveyed in one short sentence but it's what people like to do.
I disagree with the second sentence. In fact, many people are NOT aware of vanity metrics yet. Assuming some knowledge is known by everyone is why we end up with misunderstandings and conflicts.
Just my 2 cents.
