Please hard critique our new landing page

I can't believe more than one year has passed since I've started working on SliceWP (an affiliate program manager plugin for WordPress) with my brother.

It has been a long one with a lot of ups and downs, but we're finally running and we're really excited about it.

I'm reaching out to you guys for honest feedback about our new landing page. We like its design, but we're not really confident that it's sufficient for visitors to understand what our product is all about.

Please be harsh with your feedback, if you feel you need to. We can take a few negative punches, as long as they're constructive.

Here's our landing page: https://slicewp.com/

Thank you and see you in the comments. I'll try to get back to each and everyone of you.

The opening statement "Build affiliate partnerships for your WordPress shop" doesn't seem to do either of the following:

    • Describe the benefit of SliceWP
      Or
    • Provide the solution for affiliate partnerships

The statement doesn't seem to resonate with me at all, it doesn't help me decide if I should use SliceWP or a competitor.

The only thing it tells me is the same thing that I wanted to do in the first place "build an affiliate partnerships", which is not a reason to use SliceWP over anyone else.

I haven't thought about this too deeply but this could be better:

"The fastest way to setup affiliate partnerships for your WordPress Shop"

This tells me SliceWP may be able to save me time and reduce complexity.

Hey Tony, thank you for dissecting the opening statement. Now that I read your train of thought, our approach does seem very bland. I believe we don't yet have the confidence to put up such bold statements as you've shared, mainly because we're the new kids on the block, even if we know our product is solid.

But I guess without embracing this mentality we won't be able to attract the attention of our potential customers.

    Hi Mihai,

I just left a quick review on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LeviNunnink/status/1214584026914123776 Hope it's useful.

Hey Levi, thank you so much for taking the time to do this review! I really appreciate it! I wrote back also on Twitter.

Drive more, increase your sales... all this things we read on any landing page. Don't see anything different. Just another landing page, seen them millions all the same. Are you guys really sure using your tool I will increase my sales? Point me out the problem I am experiencing now without you.

    1. 1

Hmm... without us you don't necessarily have a problem. If you run an eShop and everything is working great for you without an affiliate program, you don't really need us. However, if you want to add another marketing channel to your efforts, namely affiliate marketing, SliceWP might just be the right fit for you.

I cannot be sure that using our tool will increase your sales, but I can be sure that it might. Having a great affiliate management tool is just one part of the equation. It facilitates growth, but it does not promise it. Your affiliates are the most important part and the backbone of your affiliate program. If you nurture the relationships with them, your bound to grow.

SliceWP can only help you manage your affiliates and have everything tracked for your affiliates.

      1. 1

Exactly! This is what I miss on your landing page! I tried diff channels, you just showcase me another way of growing. Put some info describing how it works. Focus on that, explain how it can help me and instead of saying basic things like “we have integration, increase tour sales, etc”.

        1. 1

Got it! Makes perfect sense. Thank you so much for your input! We really appreciate it.

Overall it looks good! However, my main 2 critics are:

1- Yellow highlight: while I understand that your purpose is to emphasize the sentence, to me it was distracting, and my eyes focused on the highlighted sentence as soon as the page loaded and I kind of lost interest for a moment in the rest of the page

2- clicking on the pricing in the top right menu is loading a second pricing page instead of scrolling down to the bottom same page existing pricing. It is redundant and slow.

    good luck!
    JM

Hey @Jsnmtr, thank you for taking the time to check our landing page!

      1. We were kind of on the edge with the yellow highlight also. The original intention was to attract the user's attention, which it does quite well, but you're right in noticing that it's way too distracting. The fact that you lost interest in the rest of the page is a thing we'd like to avoid, as the bulk of the information is below the fold.

      2. Yep, that makes sense. We've set a separate pricing page mainly for the FAQ section, which we didn't want to place on the landing page. We'll consider a change however, as we're not 100% confident the current flow is the best choice.

Salut Mihai! I think the one thing I'd make more prominent is the fact that the listed prices are PER YEAR. I believe the default people are used to seeing is /month by default.

If it saves time, quantify how much time is saved - that's what people are looking for.

I'd also get a page on WooCommerce and/or EDD to link

    1. 1

Salut Ovi! Most WordPress plugins are on a per year basis for a few years already, so I believe customers are accustomed to it by now. However, for clarity, making the font larger for the "per year" text wouldn't hurt.

As for saving time, it's quite hard to quantify. Creating and running an affiliate program for an eCommerce shop takes time. If you want to run a successful one, you have to constantly be in contact with your affiliates. SliceWP helps by automating certain aspects, which does save time, but hard to compare it to a certain workflow. I believe the plugin is more of a facilitator of growth, as it opens a marketing channel, which, if one nurtures it, can lead to higher returns.

And yes, we have plans to have pages on both Woo and EDD.

      1. 1

You got this down pat - bravo, best of luck!

        1. 1

Thank you so much! Will be posting our journey here as we go, so stay tuned!

Looks good! I’d adjust the spacing at the top for iPhone 11s so the CTA button is fully on the first screen. Other than that I like it 😎

    1. 1

Hey @seansky, thank you for jumping in the conversation. Yep, we've kind of missed the mark on a few aspects on mobile (we don't even have a menu yet) and we'll be tweaking it the following days.

Luckily for us, we know from past WordPress plugin projects analytics that most traffic, ~90%, is desktop. So we had the option to leave this part for phase two and focus on other more critical aspects.

I'm sorry guys, I don't want to hurt anybody but EVERY single landing page that I saw here on IH (when asking for feedback) looks absolutely the SAME.
And what's worse I saw the same comments "Looks great" and "Clean design".

    1. 1

Hey @Zencentric, don't worry about hurting feelings, we can take it. Direct and honest feedback goes way more than just getting a "looks great" "validation", as you've mentioned.

Now, we know the design isn't revolutionary. Neither of us is a designer and working with a designer, at this stage, is way out of our budget. So we looked at what the companies we admire were doing and took bits and pieces. Our goal was to have a simple and clean look and maintain the elements customers are accustomed to. For now, we're happy with what we managed to put together.

We're not 100% happy however with the messaging. We're not sure if a visitor understands what our product does and how it can help them. If the page has too much or too little information.

    2. 1

Don't be sorry for having an opinion! You're right to have made that observation - each of these pages have the same elements, more or less. That's because there's a commonly-agreed format that every IH is referencing when building their landing page: summary, bullets, features, screenshots, testimonials, pricing. Just the things a potential customer is used to seeing from the other umteen sites they've been visiting searching for a solution.

On the comment front, I'm with you - there's a lot of consistent encouragement from the overly-supportive community. Just remember the target audience is Mihai (the OP), no the 3rd party reader like you or me.

Lastly, a lot of people want to say something critical or constructive, and they feel they need to 'pad' the observation with something nice. They do this because they know that if you jump straight into critique, it may not be as effective as if you have them really listening - by first showing you're on their side. You'll notice this not-so-subtly applied here.

      1. 1

You're right to have made that observation - each of these pages have the same elements, more or less.
My note was not about the same elements. My note was about the same look. If you go to betalist.com you will see a lot of landing pages having the same structure but they are really nice, clean, unique. If you search for "feedback on my landing page" here you will see the same look, the same pictures, the same templates.

Just remember the target audience is Mihai (the OP), no the 3rd party reader like you or me.
It doesn't matter actually. He wanted feedback but which feedback can be given to the template that is reused for 1M+ times? I don't understand it.

        1. 2

same look, the same pictures, the same templates
He's not asking for feedback on the web design, he's asking for feedback on the content itself (phrasing/wording/phrasing/visuals) and the concept.

From original post: "we're not really confident that it's sufficient for visitors to understand what our product is all about"

Very nice and clean design. It is easy to understand what you offer.
Consider aligning the buy now buttons on the price section (desktop version).

The desktop menu has a list of add-ons, but there is no menu for mobile. I think it would make sense to add a mobile menu as well. Or place those add-on links somewhere in the page.

Looks great. What software did you use to build it?
