Please Roast This: Youtube Newsletter (TLDR)

Was thinking it would be really cool to have a newsletter that summarized the top videos in major categories, such as finance, science, comedy, news, sports, etc, and brought that to you in a newsletter format once a week. That way, you could stay up to date on specific channels or topics without having to watch tons of content.

This could also be expanded to where people can build groups for following specific channels, and once a group gets to a certain size, you create another spinoff newsletter for that group

Thoughts?

Was thinking it would be weekly, and would hire a VA to do the actual condensing

It's an interesting idea. So you're talking about looking at top YouTube videos and reviewing them or giving a list of 'must watch' content?

I'm not sure about the written summary idea - I could be wrong - but I don't think it vibes with me because I personally don't see YouTube as a site that I go to for news (which is where I think a summary could come in handy). I go there to watch random fun/interesting content (in random categories) or stay in touch with creators that I like. In either case, I think you might lose the YouTube magic if you turn videos into text.

Another related option might be to do short video summaries... not sure how the copyright works, but could you take the top videos in each category and make short 30 second trailers or synopsis. Then package a ~ 5 minutes worth as a newsletter?

    Hi @ChassidicHacker,

I mean its interesting for sure - but how different would it be from my Youtube feed which already shows my new videos from the producers I know I enjoy watching?

From a discovery point though this would be great, and it would a good way to follow specific topics rather than a specific channel.

I think the 'major categories' idea would be too broad. For example. i don't watch many videos on finance in general but I would be scroll-stoppingly interested in videos discussing methods to reduce corporation tax. Taxation would fall into the general category of Finance but for me it would get lost in the noise, and at that point I wouldn't get much value from the newsletter.

Let me know how you get on!
