Hey IH,
I've been thinking and brainstorming about this idea for a week now and it's time to ask you guys for some guidance.
I won't start building it right away. Website and social media will go up first for market validation.
So the idea is that yes, food delivery services are amazing but:
There are riders that couldn't care less about what they are delivering. It's a side job for some extra cash and that's it. Food gets to my door wet, cold and sometimes fries all over the place.
The lack of accountability within the delivery results in a shitty service that people just won't make the effort of going through the lenghty complaint process. And for what? It will be a different guy next time.
The pizza place 1/2 mile from me is amazing and has £10 pizzas. Why should i pay £15 for it (£5 delivery fee)? I might as well go for Dominos Pizza that sells 2 pizzas for £15 delivering it under 20 minutes (crazy but true).
They do have their own delivery guys. If they make a single crazy mistake they will be accountable and have to face their line manager when they get back.
People have been paying this high delivery fee because the competition is doing the same. There's no way to avoid it if you're lazy and/or can't cook.
Now straight to the point.
Yes, it would be a bit expensive to have staff taking care of deliveries but this could be staff that would also help the shop/restaurant when there's no deliveries coming in.
If potential clients, scrolling down the food delivery app see your pizza that costs £10 and at checkout it gets up to £15, they will move to a cheaper food option and you will be losing a potential customer order (making the extra staff member worth it).
I just don't think that shops/restaurants know that they are losing potencial customers due to this high fees because there's literaly no other options available.
The solution that I would work on would be a SaaS where managers at the shop would boot up and receive orders through the customers registered within the platform. It could be even just a link from the restaurant website.
It would be like building a proprietary food delivery software for each shop/restaurant where managers could customize a few bits of the web app.
I've been ordering food from a place where the same order is £15 through their own - 2005 styled - web app versus £21 through the flashy food delivery platform that is burning cash with every delivery made. I've also noticed that the same company that built their web app has done the same for four more restaurants. This gives me hope that there's market for it.
I think that i've finally overcome the 'finding the next big thing' mentality and just grab something that is not working as good as it should and give it a twist.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers
