Please vet my startup idea - JetLingo
Hi everyone,
I'm considering developing an app that helps travelers communicate in basic terms when they're in a foreign country. The app would allow users to select the country they're visiting and tap on essential words and phrases to speak and communicate with locals.
During my recent Europe trip, I realized that you don't need extensive knowledge of the language. Instead, a few words can help you understand each other. I understand that most of the time, English would suffice, but I'm thinking about people who cannot speak even basic language and don't have an understanding of using extensive apps that are available in the market.
I'm looking for feedback to validate this idea. I have 8+ years of experience in development, so let me know if you'd like to build it together with me.
Would you use an app like this when traveling abroad? What features would you like to see in an app like this? Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, this is a sound idea. I’m thinking why I would opt for this app rather than one of the many language apps on the market. One reason that comes to mind is that the app is smart and knows certain essential phrases for communication with locals based on prompts I can feed it which for example the many language learning websites do not have because they approach it from a general language learning system. Would you be able to have these essentials built in? For instance: I provide it a scenario about to play real-time and it gives me phrases to set off and complete the conversation.
By the way, if you’re looking for a developer with less than 3+ years experience to build this along with, I’d be interested to grab the opportunity.
The other language learning apps available in the market are very comprehensive. You have to go through the entire app journey to learn the basic words required for communication.
However, in this app, you'll only see the essential words required for communication, making it more streamlined.
