Please vet our startup idea - Gamification as a Service

Hello IndieHackers, @gammo and I have a business idea aimed at making email marketing a more engaging and enjoyable experience for customers. Our goal is to incorporate game-like elements into emails to keep customers interested and excited to engage with businesses.

Imagine receiving an email from your favorite fitness company with a weekly challenge to complete. Customers who successfully complete the challenge can earn points or rewards, making the email experience more interactive and exciting. Our platform will enable businesses to create gamified email campaigns that stand out from the crowd and deliver real results.

But that's not all. Our idea will also track customer interactions and provide businesses with detailed analytics to help them improve their email marketing campaigns. This will enable businesses to make data-driven decisions and optimize their campaigns for maximum impact.

We believe that our innovative platform has the potential to revolutionize email marketing and transform the way businesses interact with their customers. However, we are still in the early stages of development and would greatly appreciate your feedback on our idea. Do you think businesses would be interested in using a gamified email platform? Are there any competitors in this area? How feasible do you think it is to build this platform? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read our business idea. We are interested in hearing your opinions on this matter and anyone who wants to can visit our landing page (https://justgamification.com/) or follow our progress under the hashtag #12StepsToStartup.

I don't want to say it's a bad idea because it's not, but your description is really lackluster and not specific enough.

First of all, interactive emails are nothing new. MailChimp and a lot of other large companies do this. I understand your trying to take it a step further by offering rewards (etc), but the thing is how?

Will you create an email builder where users can build emails with game-like components? The thing is how are you going to gear those components to be relevant towards EVERY customer's company/industry without them just being generic interactive components- basically what MailChimp does- a much larger company that you won't be able to compete with unless you have a defined unique selling proposition.

    1. 1

We know that interactive emails are nothing new, and there are already some big players in the game, like MailChimp. But we think we can bring something fresh to the table by adding game-like elements that are specifically tailored to each business's industry and customers, using AI technology.

Basically, we want to make it super easy for companies to create gamified email campaigns that are engaging and relevant to their audience, with the help of AI. We're thinking about a platform that will use AI to analyze customer data and behavior, and offer a bunch of different game-like components that can be customized to fit each business's unique needs and goals.

We know there's a lot of competition out there and some people might not be into gamification and find it distracting or annoying.

Another thing to think about is that building a gamified email marketing platform takes a lot of resources, like time, money, and technical know-how.

But we're hoping to stand out by providing businesses with detailed analytics and data-driven insights to help them optimize their email marketing campaigns, all thanks to our AI-powered platform.

We're still in the early stages of development, so we're really keen to hear any feedback or ideas you might have. We're all about making this thing as awesome as it can be, so please don't hold back!

I liked the concept and I think it has excellent potential overall. However, I am inquisitive about the implementation, how would you actually do what you said, I checked the landing page, and perhaps an example would have been great.

    1. 1

At the moment, our landing page is focused on gathering feedback from potential users through a survey. We want to make sure that we're building a platform that meets the needs of businesses and their customers, and feedback from people like you is essential to making that happen.

However, the idea would be to build the platform accessible through a web browser. We want to make it easy to use for business, so we will design it to be user-friendly and intuitive.

The email builder will be a central feature of our platform. It will enable businesses to create gamified email campaigns using a simple drag-and-drop interface. This means that businesses can easily add and customize game-like components, such as challenges, rewards, and points systems, to make their campaigns more engaging and interactive.

In addition, we're exploring the possibility of integrating AI technology into our platform to assist businesses in creating their gamified email campaigns. This would make it even easier for businesses to create effective campaigns and engage with their customers in a fun and exciting way.

To make sure our platform is reliable and secure, we'll use a combination of open-source and proprietary technologies. We'll also use a cloud-based infrastructure to ensure that our platform is scalable and can handle a large number of users.

We want to emphasize that our concept is still in the idea phase, but we believe that there is a demand for this type of gamified email marketing platform. We're eager to gather feedback and ensure that our idea aligns with what the audience is looking for.

  3. 2

Perhaps an example would go a ways towards making the concept easier to understand.

    1. 1

Imagine you're a customer of your favorite coffee shop, and you receive an email from them with a weekly challenge to complete. The challenge could be something like visiting the coffee shop every day for a week, trying a new drink, or sharing a photo on social media with a specific hashtag. If you successfully complete the challenge, you earn points or rewards that can be redeemed in-store or online.

Our platform would enable businesses to create these types of gamified email campaigns that are tailored to their specific industry and customers. By incorporating game-like elements into emails, businesses can keep their customers engaged and excited to interact with them.

We hope this example helps to clarify our concept, and we appreciate your feedback. If you have any further suggestions or questions, please let us know.

If you build this you should check out AMP, which is a new type of email technology. It is opensource and started by Google. It allows emails to do some of the things a website can do, like be interactive!
There are also some platforms to enable your to easily create AMP emails without digging into the code.

Thank you for your suggestion! However, I'm not sure we're going in the same direction as the product you're proposing. We will look at AMP to see if it can be a great replacement or complement to our idea.

  5. 1

I say go for it. It's you and your idea in the end. Our inexperienced feedback about an idea doesn't matter. I personally think it's a very cool idea because gamification in email seems like a very interesting thing. Just not sure how it would work and how it's any different from a referral program.

    1. 1

Thank you for your encouragement and support of our business idea.

  6. 1

I have a similar product just without the gamification, a marketing automation platform that does what you described, and growing it is a hard deal because you need to differentiate quite a lot and target a very specific niche and not just anyone who needs this software, I would imagine the gamification itself will force you to only target a specific segment of the market but maybe consider narrowing it down even more ... for example make it for ecommerce businesses only, and the challenges will be ecommerce related and so on.
But that's just an idea, the data you'll gather will tell you what you need to do.

    1. 1

We understand your point of view on the importance of targeting a specific niche and agree that incorporating gamification could further narrow our target market. However, we believe this can also be an advantage as it allows us to create a unique value proposition that sets us apart from other marketing automation platforms.

We appreciate your suggestion to specifically target e-commerce activities and create e-commerce related challenges. This is definitely a market segment we are interested in exploring.

As you mentioned, data will play a crucial role in helping us refine our strategy and identify the most effective ways to grow our platform.

By the way, we would know more about your marketing automation platform and how you tackled the differentiation challenge. If you are available, we would be happy to schedule a call.

  7. 1

I think you need to refine it. The concept sounds good, but the way you describe does not sound much different than mailchimp & co. So I guess at this point you have in mind some a/b testing with gamification elements in the email.

The email marketing space is very crowded but that's also a good sign, it means there is enough market, enough to get at least a tiny slice of it, but in the end you have just an idea. What matters is implementation. With good implementation even a bad idea can thrive.

If I would pursue, I would be concerned that my customers are businesses. From what I read, selling to businesses takes time, and requires a lot of effort, unless you don't sell a product which delivers direct measurable results impacting the revenue.

    1. 1

You mentioned that you are concerned about the crowded email marketing space and the challenges of selling to businesses. Can you elaborate on these points and explain why you think they could be potential obstacles for our business idea? Have you encountered similar challenges in your experiences with email marketing?

Also, have you considered potential solutions or strategies to address these challenges? We'd be interested to hear your thoughts and insights on how we can overcome these hurdles and be successful in the email marketing space.

      1. 1

The space is obviously very crowded, there are tons of email marketing services like mailchimp, plus many services similar to substack. I didn't consider such solutions, I'm reading newsletters, not sending them...

  8. 1

Not sure how it would work. Gamification would probably work on very specific email campaigns, and would should definitely not be added to any email we send.

Also, gamification probably works when sent to consumers, because they might have the available time to go through the "minigame" and they would also be incentivized by the reward. In the business space, it will almost certainly not work.

But the problem, for the consumer space, as far as I know, the opening rates of emails are rather low, so idk how successful these campaigns could be anyway.

    1. 1

While we agree that not every campaign may be suitable for gamification, we believe that there are specific contexts where it can be highly effective.

For example, in the e-commerce space, gamification can be used to incentivize customers to make purchases or refer friends to the brand.

Regarding the challenge of low email open rates, we believe that incorporating more engaging and interactive content can help capture customers' attention and encourage them to open and engage with emails. By incorporating gamification, we can create a more enjoyable and memorable experience for customers, which can ultimately drive better results for businesses.

While it may be true that gamification may work better for consumer campaigns, we believe that there are still opportunities to incorporate gamification into B2B email campaigns in a way that is effective and engaging. For example, in the HR industry, gamification can be used to motivate employees to complete training or participate in company initiatives.

Overall, we appreciate your feedback and will continue to explore ways to incorporate gamification into email marketing campaigns in a way that is effective and engaging for customers.

  9. 1

I'm not fully understanding the idea

    1. 1

Our idea is to create a platform that allows businesses to incorporate game-like elements into their email marketing campaigns. For example, a fitness company could send out an email with a weekly challenge for their customers to complete, and those who successfully complete the challenge could earn points or rewards.

Our platform would make it easy for businesses to create these types of gamified email campaigns that are tailored to their specific industry and customers.
