Plz roast my idea and landing page

hi there! Seeking roasting of my landing page, and the overall idea as well :). I find it quite hard to communicate.

Essentially, I'm building a tool allowing startups to leverage ML models in their products. By making data preparation less repetitive, and pipelining less complex.

http://forloop.ai/

The problem
Today, everyone is talking about AI and ML. optimizing this - automating that. But truth is, 87% of these initiatives never reach production. Meaning, companies actually levering ML in their product (like what Uber, Airbnb does), are very few. We see two underlying reasons:

  • First is all the work with the data that's needed. Meaning, have it clean and in shape.
  • Secondly, to solve this, on a continuous basis, you need a full team including data engineers and DevOps. Making it very expensive, $3-400 K dollars in salaries for a minimal team of 3 people.

Because of this, it leaves a lot of companies behind, and this is what we want to change. We are targeting startups in series a-b stage, wanting recommendation- or dynamic pricing model in their product.

The solution:

forloop.ai is an easy-to-use data pipeline and preparation tool, with intelligence. Made for Data Scientists.

How it works:

  • First, it allows you to set up a connection between the source of data (e.g. app, data lake) and where you host your model (e.g. juypter notebooks), in a no-code environment, no data engineer required. In here, you apply modules (or boxes), where you do actions to your data (e.g. transformation).

  • Secondly, the secret sauce is a built-in intelligence/logic. That learns from your data, the actions you do with it, and the goals you have with it - and gives you recommendations. E.g., you want to do a dynamic pricing model. Then, it auto transforms the data to reach that target. Ultimately, it aims to enhance the data scientist to speed through the data preparation part.

Hey. I get what your product does and I think you communicate it great.

I particularly like the "From ... To" heading.

From messy data, to profitable models and decisions

That's a great pattern to use for communicating a better way forward!

Also, I think the product concept is promising. It sounds a little too good to be true, but if it delivers on the promise, this is solid. Congrats.

hi @pascallaliberte, thanks for the feedback! no critism? And "too good to be true", we think we can deliver, but just curious , what makes you think so?

I've written up a longer post on my blog with your site as example. In it, I recommend you tell the visitor what the app won't be good for, in order to reduce the "too good to be true" hesitation and build trust.

In the post I'm making some assumptions about your app. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

        Anyway, hope that helps.

Hi Pascal! very useful , thanks a lot! Lets stay in touch :)

It's just a bit of a sentiment. It could just be me, but my mental model about tools that claim to cut down on the need for configuration require more demonstration before I'll suspend my disbelief.

For me, since I'm not in the business of data infrastructure (but a friend of mine is, which is why I know a little bit about it), I'm not drawn to join the beta per se.

But maybe for someone who is under pressure to cut data engineering cost, the site will do fine to make someone try it out. They know where they'd likely cut costs/cut manual configurations/cut the custom stuff in favour of conventions, and by reading your site they'd be able to read between the lines, formulate an idea of how your tool might likely achieve its claim and give you guys a shot.

So I think your page is good, and I see how investing a ton more effort in adding more substance to your claim (on the page) might be costly and might even give some competitors a head start, so it's all right if you don't change it.

But it still leaves me with a too-good-to-be-true impression.
