Poll: How many indie hackers have a degree?

I was doing some keyword research around entrepreneurship and noticed that a lot of folks are asking what kind of degree they need in order to be an entrepreneur. 🤔

It surprised me and got me wondering how many of us bothered with higher education. I did, but I'm not sure how helpful it's been. Curious to hear your experience.

One of the things I have found most helpful was the network I got from going to college. This network has been key for everything from my first job to starting my first company, and in my opinion I don't think I could have formed as strong of a network without college.

I also was able to discover what subjects I liked and what I was good at in college. Beforehand, I did not know much about engineering or computer science, and was a path that I never considered. College allowed me to explore other subjects before realizing CS was a really good fit for me.

From an educational standpoint, I found it helpful to have classmates to work on problem sets with, professors and TAs to ask questions to and learn from, and a structured class schedule to learn the foundations of CS.

You don't need a degree to be an entrepreneur. You don't need a degree for many of the jobs asking for one. It's a social norm. One that is shifting.

Yeah, it's a big shift and a necessary one IMO.

It depends on your industry, country and many more factors so let’s not generalise.

Sure, social norms differ around the world. I'll give you that. But where exactly do you need a degree to be an entrepreneur?

I was referring to the part about jobs. Sorry, I didn’t make it clear. As for being an entrepreneur I agree that you don’t need a degree
