Hey there,
We’ve made some big changes to the way people signup on logology. I’m curious to get your opinions and feedback. 🙏
Logology has had friction with signups since day 1. At first, it was required before doing ANYTHING on the website, which saw a 90% abandon rate. Then we moved the signup right after the « logo design questionnaire » which improved to a 50% drop off.
However, our « WOW effect » happens right after that: when people get to see their logos. Lots of users told us that’s when they finally understood the link between the questions they answered and the design of their brand (aka: « wow this app is for real! »).
But even though it’s the best part of the experience, half of our audience never saw it. Instead of seeing their logos, they faced a registration page. Even worse, a lot of people let us know that they were frustrated to have spent so much time answering our original questions, only to find that we required signup.

Not the kind of "wow effect" people want:

So why did it take so long for us to address this? Even though it was an obvious issue from day one, there were a couple of reasons not to do it:
However, the reality of the last point is that people didn’t respond that well to our email communication. But why would they really? It’s not like they wanted to give us their email, it was simply a requirement for them to view their logos…
So once we had fixed the other issues with our funnel, we didn’t have any reasons left not to do it. We decided to bite the bullet and refactor the way our platform works.
Instead of seeing a signup wall, we now take you to the logos directly. You can do exactly the same things as before, you just don’t need an account for it. If you want to save your progress for later, you can signup to do so.

Isn’t it better?
Now if I wanted to play the contrarian game, I could see some potential issues with this:
However, my hypothesis is that it will pay off in terms of sales.
I’m curious to get your thoughts on this, you can try the new process here.
Also, if you have experience with removing signup friction and still manage to collect a user’s email address, I'd love to know how you figured it out.
Hey just a heads up that your pricing in Canadian Dollars uses
CANfor the short code when it is normally referred to asCAD. Also there is a comma where there should be a decimal (probably due to how European amounts are displayed) ie. $53.00 is displayed as $53,00. It makes the price look like its way more than it is :)As for feedback on the signup process: I think having a preview of logos that updates as you move through the questionnaire (maybe after every section) would have kept me more engaged. If I hadn't come through IH to your site I probably would have bailed earlier with so many questions before seeing any results.
The logos are really good though!
Awesome feedback, it’s really helpful. I’ll fix the price display.
We’ve been trying to find a way to make the questionnaire feel less scary for a while, showing logos earlier could definitely help. Thanks 🙏
I think it's great that you removed a signup wall. More people generating logos should lead to more people buying logos. I get the desire to capture their emails, but you can't let that to block value-exchange.
Sign up to save for later is the right framing for prospects who need time to think. I don't think it will work for people who were just testing the waters. You might need to find what you can offer them in exchange for their email. Maybe free guide on how to choose logo or future discount.
Thanks, that's great feedback! We're on it, we've written a 4-email guide with personalized content based on your test results, just wrapping it up. Will add the savings functionality right after that.
agreed! the faster you get to wow, the better, good luck!
Thanks! Let's see how it goes 😀
I'm interested to see the results! If this seems like positive progress, you could always limit the result set to like 3-5, and then ask for a sign-up to see all of them. I think that's a much more reasonable ask than blocking all of them (like you had before).
We have 75% of people who buy within a day of hearing about us, so it seems like they wouldn’t benefit from an account. We’ll have to experiment!
Honestly answering 17 questions was quite a chore. Trying to figure out which animal or superhero perfectly describes my startup felt rather unnecessary.
I'd guess that people looking for logo ideas can barely define what their start up is all about, let alone know it's identity.
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah we could do a better job of explaining why the questions matter. There’s lot of people who don’t understand how good design is more than just how things look. It’s on our roadmap.

Thank you for the very thoughtful feedback, I love that you tried again and liked the results!
On the topic of showing only a few logos to make people signup: initially that's what we thought of doing. Then as I was digging through the stats, I saw that 75% of our sales were made on the same day that people signed up.
That was contrary to my assumption that people needed a lot of thinking before making a purchase. So with that understanding, I thought that we should make sure that we weren't missing on any of these buyers. That's why we decided to make the signup fully optional.
Now to gather people's email, we're thinking of ways to make the signup MORE interesting:
We'll display these two benefits prominently so that people who need a bit more time to think have a clear incentive to signup, while not preventing any "instant buyers" from purchasing quickly.
What do you think?

Thanks for the heads up, I read your comments there and noticed that I have a similar assumption: what's the value of recycled blogposts? But I guess a lot of people just love consuming content via email. The "curated" and personal vibe might resonate more with them.
That could be a great tactic for us, especially since we're gonna ramp up our content creation effort in order to gain more traffic pretty soon.
