Popular Items algorithm

with no intro,
is it true to sort items by hits on popularity?!
for example consider a list of songs.
it has hundreds of tracks.
when I listen to ten of them, these tracks will become the most popular tracks on the list. then the next person will listen to them because they are the most popular items. so they are going to be more popular. and this pattern occurs for the next people if I sort the list by popularity.
So what should I do if I want to sort a list by popularity and prevent its affect on people preference at the same time.
