Post Your App - Get App Store Review

Hey Indie Hackers!

Post the link to your mobile app (iOS/macOS/Android) and let’s all help each other with a review, repeat after me :-)

I’ll check the app out for a day and then write a quality review about how I will (or would) use the app - as opposed to “Great app!” type of reviews which have no value to anyone.

This may be a good way to advertise your app and also show how the users browsing app stores can benefit from the app.

The only rule: Don’t write a review unless you think the app deserves 4 or 5 stars -> Send your feedback to the developer directly instead so they can improve!

❇️ VoxRec ❇️ (iOS) is my "Speech to Text" app and if had to write a review I'd say:

“I use VoxRec to record random thoughts on my Apple Watch while out and about. For most time I use it a lot for listening to audiobooks. With each audiobook, I bookmark important time and write brief notes for future reference.”

Go!

    I think this is great!

    Mine is Android only:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cybersky.snapsearch

Let me know and would love to review back :)

Her you go. https://ibb.co/cbDP0P6 . My app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=opunktschmidt.fastcaloriecounter&hl=de

I noticed that your app is translated to german. Which service provider do you use to translate your app? The German translation is not complete. Some is in German and some in English. Also, the German texts sound strange for a native speaker in some places.

      1. 1

Thank you! Mine is done too (Sam Whitney).

I've used Google Translate ( I know, I know ). Is it so bad it's having a negative effect?

        1. 1

Thanks. The german translation is not totally bad. The bigger problem is that it is incomplete. It is confusing that some texts are in English and some in German.

      PlayStore review done!

This app looks like a decent ui designer is part of the team! :)

As I did for others, I'll give some candid feedback:

      • First impressions of the app are that this app is not like 90% of Android apps. What I mean by that is that most Android app feels like they are created by developer and developer only - expecting the user to figure it out.
      • Browser Controls in the tutorial - that image could be edge to edge so I can see all the features without squirming my eyes
      • In the tutorial - skip obvious things, it's ok to have 3 top things to know and you can have a longer tutorial later
      • Again, who is this app intended for? If it's for security/privacy concerned people you should add more disclosure about what you collect. Also, why would someone want to browse with Ads on?
      • There is lot of features on the homepage that are set-once and forget. They do not need to be there all the time. You can make it part of the tutorial/onboarding and then just leave them in settings somewhere
      • Why there is news? I thought this was a browser, not a social or news app - is it trying to be too much?
      • View Advantages of Premium - that feels like an odd phrase.
      • You are using one In-App screen for all and you preceded it with the explanation of the feature. Embedd the IAP into the feature explanation so no need for an extra tap.
      • In the IAP, what is it that you want me to choose? I'd guess One Time Payment because it's the biggest button, but it's not enough for me to take action without reading it all in detail. People do not like to read, nor think. Not here of course :-)
      • The top Privacy is not negotiable - what is it? It's taking quite a prominent space on the app but has no value, no purpose. If you swap that for "Unlock all features" it may actually be beneficial for the user and for your bank account.
      • App update shows, but I just downloaded it. Is it broken?
      • When I open settings/menu/the crumbs in the top right - it opens keyboard - not sure why.
      • Oooh, the getting started disappears one by one. That's sweet - but I'd prefer that there is a choice for me to say I want it to disappear or tell me where to find it. Otherwise, I feel like you changed the UI for me without my consent. And now things are lost. Frustrating.

Overall - it's the best-looking app from the thread. With a few optimisations, I bet you can double or triple your conversion/revenue.

      I'll post store review tomorrow.

      1. 1

Thank you for such a detailed feedback, and for so many kind words!

No designer though, just me doing the whole thing - so glad you liked it 😁

Will reply to each and every point:

        • Thank you 🙂
        • Got it! Will fix.
        • I understand the tutorial being too long. What do you feel about perhaps having two of them? Onboarding and detailed tutorial as separate ones?
        • I guess this is for everyone. Privacy enthusiasts should be excited, but I guess everyone should use something like this (if not Snap Search specifically). I definitely think it helps having all these features packed in instead of downloading them separately as addons. Each add-on having its own developer makes it more difficult to trust too,
        • The toggle suggestion is interesting, will keep it in mind.
        • I added it initially just to increase engagement but later it turned out there was enough engagement anyways. However, some users really seem to like it so I'm scared to remove it. But it does have the advantage of being presented without any bias/preferences..
        • Could you suggest something 'better'?
        • Would showing all 3 options in that popup be a good idea?
        • This is one of the most important screens for sure. I keep trying to improve it with every update.. I guess I got a long way to go.
        • It's random messages/quotes I keep changing once in a while, no significance as such 😅
        • It's not 'broken'. Tapping on that leads to a detailed page with an explanation of everything new in it. If you tap on it, it should hide. Turned it off for users on the latest version right now.
        • That's weird, seems like a bug. Will fix it!
        • That's an interesting point. Will do something about that.

Thank you, again. I'll definitely let you know when these suggestions are implemented (though there is time for the next update).

        1. 1

As you can see - I reviewed all the apps posted. I suggest you look at the other reviews too as I tried not to repeat myself.

Half of the apps in the thread are very early MVPs at best where you have a product. I see your install base is 10k and I see that you invest A LOT of time and effort into your app. I am not sure what your attribution data are and I did not review your ASO.. but if you're at 100 downloads per day, you should be making $1k+ MRR (This is a guess based on my app and 15+ years building software products with a focus on UX, conversion etc).

I'd be happy to spend one hour with you every week, first to "tear down" your app and then outline experiments for positioning, conversion, ASO and overall. It's not for free thought, here is what it will cost you:

          • Time: You will have to commit to implementing those things quickly (weekly releases). I don't want to waste my time and energy on projects that are not taken care of by their creators.
          • You will adopt my analytics platform BambooData (there is no cost and no ties, but it will be crucial for the evaluation of the experiments)
          • If your revenue doubles in two months, you'll become an ambassador of the platform and provide testimonials about the service you received :)

If you're interested, fill in this form App Review (UX, ASO, Analytics)

          Let me know! :)

          1. 1

Sounds interesting. Is there any faster way for us to chat about this? Let me know whatever works for you. Twitter/Signal/Telegram etc

    4. 1

      Will review it tomorrow

  2. 2

Hey @steveo! This is awesome, thanks for putting this together! I can see this being a regular thing in this group, so we can help all the mobile Indie Hackers with early feedback & growth :)

  3. 2

    Awesome!

My app is Re:Schedule (iPad only), a calendar or team leaders:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/re-schedule/id1336133904?mt=8

I also second that you have to use the app for a few days before leaving a review. AFAIK, Apple penalizes this too.

    1. 2

Downloaded. Will check it out later tonight!

    2. 1

So I have tested it and thought as I did for others, I'll give you feedback too (not in any order, maybe the order of appearance)

Note - I am being completely candid as I go, unemotionally just narrating it as I go.

      • Being only iPad app you are missing on the huge iPhone market. Yes, the UI and UX will be challenging, but maybe you can identify 20% of most used actions and focus on that to provide value to users
      • The demo animation at the beginning is great. I almost missed it because I was about to Start Trial, I'd probably time it so it starts with the demo, then the buttons appear to draw attention.
      • You may need to add Apple SignIn but maybe not if you present it as a business tool
      • Pushing for the sale early - that's very good. The UI is a bit confusing - the Try 30 Days Free is a call to action but there is no clear preference for what you want me to choose. Blue or Green? They are neutral colours for me. Don't make me think, pick for me!
      • Drop the swipe for images - adds no value, just distraction.
      • It would be better if you tell me upfront that I HAVE TO sync my google calendar. You also want to see all my calendar and have not established any credibility - I would normally I'd drop right here. I wonder what's your drop out in the onboarding. I'll be doing more posts/sessions on analytics if you're interested.

      Phew.. that was just onboarding...

      • I'm in. I recognise my calendar events but I am confused what's the schedule on the right. Is it tutorial? Or some of my old tasks? I'm not sure where it comes from. It would be good to tell me what is what and where. I use GSuite but I do not use Gmail nor Google Calendar (Thunderbird + Lightning) so if you are assuming that everybody knows - I don't.

      • Some parts of the UI are bit harder to figure out... I'd need to spend more time to familiarise myself with what does what and I guess that's out of the scope of this review.

I'd be happy to follow up and dissect it deeper if interested!

I left a review. Will cancel the subscription over the weekend, so you do not have early churn.

      1. 1

Thanks! I've downloaded Voxrec as well. I'll wait for a few days before writing a review. Apple might flag same-day reviews.

Your feedback is much appreciated! I had a couple of questions :

        • "Try 30 Days Free is a call to action but there is no clear preference" - Do you mean that it is clashing with the Google Sign In button?
        • "Drop the swipe for images - adds no value, just distraction." - do you mean the paging between onboarding screens?

I would love to go deeper into the feedback. Would you be open to doing a call?

        1. 2

          Thank you, Girish!

People do not like to think. You should remove any cognitive friction where a person needs to pause and evaluate consciously. You are offering options, but you know what you want them to choose. In your screen the Try 30 Days Free was so prominent (bold, contrast) that it was stealing attention from the actual options (not to mention that both seem visually equal)

Yes - the swipe for different image adds no value. It's a distraction from what you want the user to do -> purchase.

Have a look at my comment here and let me know if this in any way resonates with you.

I just had a brief call with @cybersky and we're going to do 1 month or so bootcamp (not sure if it is the right word, but let's use it for now) that will cover optimisation of the following:
          Internal (in app):

          • Analytics - what data, how, when and for what purpose
          • UX
          • Conversion
          • Retention
            External:
          • Product Positioning
          • ASO
          • Business Model
          • Paid Marketing

I am no expert in all of it, but I have a rather deep understanding and a handful of experience in product design (software), UX and related psychology and the rest is from experience on own products. If I help you achieve 2x? 10x? I believe it will help me build up even better credibility and who knows what :)

The important thing for me is that I'm not wasting my time and energy on projects that people just going to abandon because of any reason.

          1. 1

Just submitted a review for VoxRec.

            A few points of feedback:
            - I found the font in the transcription + notes section too small

            • I would make the notes section visually distinct from the transcription section (different font weight, color, etc) I was intially confused by this.
            • I would consider using label headings instead of icons for the section. New users will not know what the icons mean.

            Hope that helps.

            1. 1

Thank you for your time to check out the app and also to leave a review! Yes, the accessibility is next on the list. Updated onboarding should help with that too. I am now adopting "less is more" especially for text. Yes, there is a short learning curve and people do not read anyway, so if those are the only issues you pointed out then I'm happy :-) there is much more.

              1. 1

BTW, Your review of Re:Schedule is not showning up, Apple may have blocked it. Have you seen this happen elsewhere?

Also, can you send me the info on the bootcamp?

          2. 1

Thanks, I'll have fixes out for those 2 issues shortly.

I would be interested in learning more about the bootcamp. What format is it?

            1. 1

I think it will be 1-2 hours per week on a Meet. Maybe we will do a Slack workspace. Starting with a deeper analysis for each app and outlining the scope and goals. I believe that even a guessperiment (yup, I just made up the word) it should provide data to conclude if it had any effect, in what way and on whom.

Ideally, there would be 3-5 developers with their apps, so we can spend enough time to go deep, yet it's also efficient for me. I'll drop you an email and we can chat more.

              1. 1

Sounds good, I'll look for the email.

    3. 1

      Will check it tomorrow :)

Oh.. please review my dating app!
https://flockdating.com is the link to the website
    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1032962936 - Apple
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.social.heythere&hl=en - Android

Name: "the Flock - online dating community"
The Pitch: Online dating is ruined by scammers/fakes. We keep them out through network protection and AI that watches for them on the platform and disables them immediately. We also allow you to invite friends into the platform (single or not) to help you find your person. Finally, we have a full blown social network embedded inside that is like facebook. We're trying to build a better online dating experience, one brick at a time.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

    1. 2

Hey @elijahk4! Yes bit after the fact but I have now few minutes so I'll give you a quick candid feedback:

      • I love the idea. Having a local feed of peoples recommendation can be a really interesting way to see what is going on in the vicinity and what's hot. There would be a spam problem but it's nice problem to have when you have users. I see the app is new so congrats on launching!
      • Your app presence and screenshots are not convincing. First, the name is generic and not unique, even searching for "Circa" you were 3rd or 4th. You are also missing out on ASO in title and subtitle (title mainly), why not "Circa - local events & food" you will rank better for those keywords (if that's what the app is about, I did not see - read further)
      • Screenthots.. you can use the big brand and titled screens where it's not clear what's in the screens when you are Uber or Airbnb or big brand where people go and download it because they search the brand. You screenshots do not show me what is the purpose of the app. The app looks nice and polished but I don't know what it does really. I do not care about Share or Customisation - that's what I expect from EVERY app. Oh jus noticed - the "Discover / Live feed to discover what's going on near by" -> THAT should be your main heading and on the top. No one cares what Circa is (sorry). Pick the 3 most valuable use cases / benefits and tell about them.

      App:

      • Sign In vs Sign Up - it's confusing. They should not be the same size imho although you made Sign Up bolder CTA, which is better. You are also assuming that someone uninstalled the app and came back, but now most people will be new, make it simpler and get to the point.
      • I understand why accounts are important (functionally and business wise), but you lost me with that. I really wanted to see what is in the app and after I even gave you my email you did not let me in because it was not verified. Well, if you send me out of the app that I do not know what it is about, I'm not coming back. To make it short - show me what the app is about and if you need the account confirmed, then that can be done later, but right now, I think you should be more concerned about people getting from download to generate content in your app ASAP.
      • The sign-up is not exciting at all. I did some thumbnails (because the app in screenhots is small and kind of hard to see what's there) of an app in the app store, but then I'm presented with some boring form..

To sum up: Get people excited about what the value is for them in the app from the start and let them do what they want to do. I had the same thing with verification of account and my signups and usage data show:

      • Not forcing verification (allowing to skip) resulted only in a fraction of unverified emails. Also, those were all people who never used the app after install. So I did not lose anything.
      • Adding option to use the app without registration significantly increased usage

      Hope this helps!

      1. 1

This is gold. Thank you for your time. I will make adjustments based on your feedback.

  9. 1

    Hey, hope I'm not late!

Here is my app: jadoo - a geobased social network.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.njadoo

Will lovet to know what you think :)
    Thanks!

  10. 1

I'm only seeing this now. I hope I'm not late. I'll go through the comments, but I don't have a Google Play Store account.

Amicu.app is a contacts app with recurring reminders to keep in touch.

"I use Amicu to remember to catch up with people from time to time. My life can get busy. And it helps to see, when it's about time to meet or have a call. It's especially useful for friends living far away and staying in the loop without social media. In FB and the calendar app there's too many birthdays. With Amicu it's only birthday reminders for the selected contacts."

    On Vox @steveo

Super cool animation. I'd increase the font size a bit though. The terms and privacy links that I have to accept don't open. Not great for the trust building. But the emoji change is fun! The first recorded sentence worked. The second was wrong. These mixed results are why I don't use speech to text more. I skipped the paywall and get another pay wall? Hmm. I don't even care about all these features and things. I want to make sure the recording works well enough for me first. I'm in the app now and recorded some audio as test. But I don't have any more minutes to test. Why do you show the mic selection so prominently, if there's only one mic right now? I'd put it in a corner and put the record button down.

Probably I should have selected the second option in the paywall to be able to give it a try. But the flow seems still off. Now that I can't evaluate the product before comitting I just delete it.

    1. 1

Thank you, kaioelfke. Thank you for your direct and candid feedback!
Prominent mic selection - you been the "foot note" under the record button. I'd thought it's not very prominent. There reason it's there even when you have just one mic is for UI consistency and also that it's important for recording - you need to make sure you record from the right source.

I agree the flow needs improvement, something that is continuously iterated - you just happen to install the latest release if you'd seen the previous one you'd have much more to say haha :)

Amicu sound like a concept app that I started working on some time ago but paused it, although my concept was more like a personal CRM. I'll check it out and leave review!

      1. 1

The UI stuff isn't so important. The most critical thing is that after skipping through onboarding quickly I can't test and evaluate the product (transcribing) before purchasing. I don't typically buy apps before evaluating them.

I can also write a review to support you. The app otherwise looks nice.

        1. 1

Thanks! I left a review for Amicu!

          1. 1

Hey @kaioelfke did you manage to leave a review for VoxRec?

            1. 1

Not yet, but no worries it's on my todo list. I'm still behind with a few tasks this week, it's been busy.

              Edit: It's submitted. :)

Super cool idea! I have an app to share (in beta currently). It's called BUNCH - Daily Leadership Coach, and it's an AI coach for a new generation of managers.

It's iOS only for now: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bunch-daily-leadership-coach/id1500872908

Would love reviews on the app store and feedback here.

    1. 1

I don't want to make an account to test this. Normally, I'd cancel before signup.

The chat icon for the quiz confused my onboarding process a lot. I got confused what was happening. On an iPhone 8 with iOS 13 the text "pro tip: if you're busy or away, use your status to communicate" is clipped off on the right edge in some lesson on remote work.

I don't like how the content mentions a product like Zoom instead of video call. What if a company uses Google Meet or something else. I don't like Zoom due to it's privacy shortcomings.

I was very skeptical, when I saw the screenshots. I expected some random business book stuff. But actually I like the app. But it took some time to understand what it is and how it works. All these feedback popups and quotes to share get annoying quickly. And I can't dismiss with a swipe. I have to tap a button.

      My app: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481868897

Thanks a lot for this! Will check out Amicu and let you know how it goes.

Built the fastest way to search the web on iOS https://apps.apple.com/app/id1443704688

    1. 1

If I see this app on the App Store search etc and not here I would feel like this:

I would normally not download this. I only use browsers from sources I trust like Mozilla. It says private, but what does it mean? Can I check the code? The first screenshot seems a bit random with the three features without the product. Is it an ad blocker? A screen recorder? A browser?

And then you ask immediately to make it my default browser. Instead of pitching me first. I decide when I make things default as I like them the most. Not because somebody tells me.

Some buttons have a too small tap area. The barcode and arrow down button look strange, if they're over search results. And there's no tabs? I wouldn't use a browser without tabs.

But the app seems quite quick, which it should be given the name. ;)

Left review on AppStore! (Plz check VoxRec in the main post above)

What's your DAU if it is not a secret?

      1. 1

What would you say are some of the most common use cases for VoxRec? I typically record myself playing drums but hardly ever text notes... for those I use notepad and dictation.

        1. 1

Hi @jamesmudgett, did you manage to leave a review for VoxRec? (I did not see anything come up yet) ;-)

        2. 1

I think VoxRec did not find its PMF yet. So many people use it so many different ways. How I use it:

          • Record random ideas at random times, on Watch or iPhone - it took a bit of getting used to verbally document random thoughts, but now it's my go-to. It automatically syncs to Gdrive and transcription is sent to me via email, so even if I never open the app, I have it all where I need it (automation was a big driver for the app)

          • Audiobooks - I load up a few audiobooks and listen when I go for a walk. It remembers last played location of each file so it's easy to listen at random times. Version 1.0 will have full editing and formatting features. I am thinking of changing the habit in a way, where I'll be noting the time of playback and write notes as I listen. These notes saved with the audio will then form Table of Content with active reference for the audio.

Someone I chatted to use it to record lectures, transcribe them and print them as study notes.

Another person uses it to transcribe podcasts.

Meetings, and interviews - some artist used it to transcribe interviews where the recording was also mixed into a song :-D

For music - you can use voice activation - sound threshold. It will not record when there is no sound so you end up with very short snippets of music stitched together instead of one long audio with a lot of silence or many different recordings.

Great, thank you! I've been playing with VoxRec for the past couple of days I'll leave a review very soon.

        DAU is low ~50

    3. 1

This app takes you the quickest from App Store to .. well right into it :)

It's pretty simple and straight forward, there are only a few things I'd point out:

      • Talk to me - tell me how it works. I saw the adblocker and installed it. I appeared right on the tutorial web, but I was looking for some more assurance to know what it does and how it works. In other words, what should my expectations be from using the app?
      • The tutorial on the page is good, especially the animations. I would try to make the animations to fit the screen, it felt like an animated advert before I realised it's actually a tutorial.
      • Why Screen Recording? I did not get it. For me, that's a security red flag right there.
      • The icons for QR code and hide keyboard are black on black - very hard to see. They also overlap the search suggestions. I'd move them out of the way.

My overall feeling is mixed because I like how simple it is, but for me to use it, I'd need some assurances and understand what it does. Maybe you can explain also monetisation in the app if any. Are you collecting any data? You can maybe boast about not using any social SDKs etc.. it's more about the positioning of the product on the market - who is it for? When you identify the target audience, you can then estimate the value and charge for it.

I'll keep it and test it with some weird sites to see how it renders them :)

If you answer some of the questions above I'd feel like I can review it better with what I think is valuable about the app.

      1. 1

This is exactly the kind of feedback I need to hear! Thank you so much.

        • read to me is just a small feature that reads back the page text. It’s off by default, not sure how useful it is, might drop on future updates.
        • thanks, trying something new here. Had larger animations but they were huge downloads, made them ultra compressed but can be expanded o see full-size.
        • recording was an idea for giving feedback you can enable cam and microphone to record a reaction cam plus screen. When tapping stop recording you can quickly share out. Will likely burry the feature though in future update.
        • good feedback

I’m going to make updates to the new tutorial landing page to point out some benefits mentioned in AppStore. Quick does not collect or store data about the sites you visit. Except, some basic telemetry which can be disabled in settings.

        1. 1

I am glad that my feedback is of value. I am working on a new venture that does app-usage analytics in a way where lof of the UX feedback I give can be quantified.

Explain in detail what you collect. If you have nothing to hide, then don't hide it.

Most users will never provide feedback. It may be better to have a form to send feedback and attach some diagnostic as I do in VoxRec.

It's awesome that the app is sooo light, but I do not think people care. When average app size (I guess) is 100MB, then your app being 5MB will still be awesome.

As I mentioned it in another post here in the thread - you should work on positioning. Browser is such a generic product, you need to pick your audience.. Browser for who?

          1. 1

Great feedback. Have to think on this for a while. Will probably lean into speed.

  14. 1

    Hey, great idea!

Mine's https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/id1504459301 - it's a dating with some features that make it v different to most dating apps out there. You can get a better summary at www.elatedate.com.

Hey @sanjayp did you manage to leave a review for VoxRec? I did not see any new reviews recently.

      1. 1

Hey @steveo, sorry not yet but thanks for the reminder. Will do it this week!

    2. 1

Hey, you app isn't available in my region so I comment based on the screenshots. I like the concept with terminating the chat, focusing on few, and giving feedback. I wonder, if the subtitle works keyword wise with the - in anti-ghosting. I would make the App Store button a bit bigger on your landing page. The font looks a bit aliased. The tricky part of such an app is getting a big enough user base. Good luck!

      My app: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481868897

    3. 1

Left review on AppStore! Please check VoxRec - top of this page :)

    4. 1

You haven't asked, but here is my teardown of the app:

      • I like the concept of 3 chats at the time. Keep it alive or get out :)
      • It looks like the app's colour is BLACK. It feels odd at best. The logo is black with white, the buttons are black, the text is all black.
      • Onboarding and registration are clean and simple, but you could save me time if you just asked for my location and filled it in. Or are you not using my location?
      • The cities and countries are not ordered A-Z or in any identifiable fashion. London is last?! :)
      • Your city not listed? - it's hidden under the dropdown, so when I cannot see my city, I also cannot see that message.
      • The onboarding gets better visually further I get. I wonder why the start was so cold :) I would guess that you changed designers halfway through the project :-D
      • The feed invites me to swipe up, but I can't... I also did not get the first part in the feed. Why did not I see the pictures too and just saw the answers? Why not even tell me anything about the person just the answers?
      • I'm now on the other feed - Discovery? With photos, cannot scroll to see their answers because they are below the fold.. frustrating.
      • What are the thumbs up? Oooh I get it.. not clear.

I think that after trying it and thinking hard about what you tried to do, I get it. I don't think people will be so patient to get through all of it and then still try to understand it. You should explain what's going to happen in 3 steps:

      • Profile+Answer questions
      • Pick answers to questions you like
      • See matches based on the answers

That would be SO CLEAR. Also, you can skip many other onboarding parts and simply ask people to fill them in before they can take some action, like like. Show them the goodies (ehm) and then convert them.

I'll leave a review in a few days. Solid app! One designer should make it all consistent in the UI.

P.S. I wish there is an option to delete my account so I do not need to serve you GDPR notice :)

      1. 1

This is great, really appreciate it!

    5. 1

      Nice design.

I'm in the US and it's only available in UK? But also my wife would kill me. Research?

      1. 1

Thanks! Yes, only the UK for now. Coming to the US soon though.

  15. 1

Hello everyone! I just launched this app where you can write a diary pretty fast by answering 5 questions, rating your day out of 10 and adding a photo. I would really appreciate some feedback so even tho you don't want to rate it you can always send me some feedback. Here is the link for iOS/Android: https://fastdiary.page.link/install

    1. 1

This is a very competitive space. I use the stoic app. Your design isn't very appealing so far, but you can work on it. The small text on the edge isn't easy to read. The 10 stars take a lot of place and you can't easily count them. I'd have one star and 9/10 next to it. The screenshot with profile and gray overlay looks strange. Maybe you can find some resources online about app design and usability.

      Good luck! My app: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481868897

    2. 1

This looks more like a very rough MVP from the first screen - there is nothing to tell me that I even opened the right app. It's asking for email and password - but should I have had the password before? Is there a site where I should have been registered?

I figured that at the bottom is an active area to sign up, but it is moving in cycles.
I'd be happy to discuss what are you trying to achieve and give you some basic pointers, but I'll not be leaving any review for this app on AppStore, otherwise, I'd feel like I compromised on my personal integrity :)

The project definitely needs more work. I'm surprised that it has been released.

    3. 1

Installed. I'll test it and let you know!

    1. 1

    2. 1

Hi Kyle.. I did a review for other apps so I'll take my remaining energy and do one for you too :)

      Let's start!

      • SignIn/SignUp - maybe it's important, maybe it's not, but before even seeing the app this is bit presumptuous. I would normally delete the app at this point. If there is a value in signing up, tell me what it is. Even better, let me see that I NEED to sign in to benefit from some feature. In other words - make me want to register.
      • You can skip "You have no newsletters" - I know :)
      • I have subscribed to the news letter and now it says unsubscribe, the navigation is not logical because it could have been done in a way that you just display overall on the logo and I tap on those that I want to sign up.. no need for back and forth.
      • Only now I realised what the app is about - I did not read the app description (like 90% of people) - It's actually clever to keep track of what I am already signed up for, but would be better to know what I did before I installed the app
      • Is it actually using my email to sign up or is it an rss feed? Is that why you needed my email? It could have been explained at the beginning.
      • Saved screen is empty. So lonely there..
      • The UI feels.. inconsistent and confusing. Hard to pinpoint one thing, sometimes action item is icon, sometimes text, sometimes icon has text... elements that are irrelevant take so.much.space.. and things that are relevant are not prominent.
      • I'm missing filter for Unread

In short - I like the idea. Especially if I can have this outside of my normal email not to be spammed. I actually have a separate email for newsletter and I use gmail to read them.

I would spend time on the UI. I can actually see myself using something like this on a tablet to read what's new. If I did not have enough on my plate I'd probably take this idea myself!

I'll write a review in the store tomorrow!

      1. 1

        Invaluable feedback, thank you!

    3. 1

Have installed NewsBox! Let me know if you'd like anything specific in the review :)

      PS: Mine is Snap Search

    4. 1

I have installed your app "NewsBox" and will rate it later :) I would like to use the app a little bit first, otherwise Google might delete my rating. My app: FAST - Calorie Counter

      1. 1

Hey, I've installed Fast too! Let me know if you'd like anything specific in the review :)

        PS: Mine is Snap Search

      2. 1

Fast Calorie Counter installed! Will also rate it after some use!

          1. 2

Thanks! Also left my review on FAST calories counter.

  16. 1

This is a great idea! Here is my app (Android only atm): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.giall.timelog

It's a productivity, time, and goals tracker!

    1. 2

      Left review on PlayStore!

      1. 1

        Thank you!

I've already implemented quite a few changes based on your feedback, such as a proper onboarding flow and an easier way to get to the tracking part for each habit, so thanks again for the detailed, constructive feedback!

    2. 2

Hey @giall - I'll review your app as I did for the others and write up my candid feedback as I go.

      So!

      • The first app that actually asks for consent to collect data. I wonder what is the percentage of people who opt out. But I saw you only have about 100 installs so the stats would not be significant. I'll opt out.
      • The UI is clean, but I am left without any explanation what is what, what to do first or where to start. Some onboarding would help to make me feel familiar with the app from the getgo.
      • The input forms are clumsy. It has 0 prefilled and when I add 1 it shows it as 10.
      • What's the purpose of goal frequency "Never" is it for a repeat? It's not clear. Why would I go through all the effort of adding a habit that never repeats? I may be missing something here.. again, some tutorial would help.
      • I find the navigation around the app clunky and longwinded. Everything takes so many taps and forms to fill. It is almost more painful to log the event than to do my habit :)
      • I think the timer to track habit should be the main action, yet it is tucked away in top right corner. The reason I feel it should be more prominent is that once I set up the habits, it should be one tap. Instead the + is an extra menu, extra tap.

As I said, I like the clean UI but I feel it's not clear how I am expected to use the app.
If you expect the users to figure it out on their own, you'll lose them to other apps that just may offer less, but it's one thing done very well and easily.

I'll leave a review on the play store tomorrow.

      1. 1

Thanks so much for the constructive feedback!

I agree with a lot of your points (onboarding, goal setting) and most of them are already in the backlog. My main issue is that it's hard to find the right "one tap" flow since there are too many options regarding tracking (manual, stopwatch, timer, pomodoro...). Happy to hear any suggestions regarding what could change! :)

As for people who consent to analytics, currently it's about 50%.

    3. 2

Have installed Timelog! Let me know if you'd like anything specific in the review :)

      PS: Mine is Snap Search

      1. 1

Thank you! Any feedback is welcome. :) I've also downloaded your app and will give it a review.

I wanted to ask since your app has >10k downloads, what's the conversion rate? I know it depends on the app and various factors, but I'm still curious about that since I'm still at 100!

        1. 2

I've left my review (Sam Whitney) 😁

          All the best!

          1. 1

Thank you! Just left mine as well!

        2. 2

Looking forward to reading it :)

Is that download conversion rate you’re asking? Around 50% I think.

          1. 1

I meant people that have actually subscribed to the premium features!

    4. 2

I have installed your app "Timelog" and will rate it later :) I would like to use the app a little bit first, otherwise Google might delete my rating. My app: FAST - Calorie Counter

      1. 1

Thank you! I've also downloaded your app and been using it, will share my review in the next few days!

          1. 1

Thank you! I've also just reviewed yours. :)

I also wanted to ask you, since you have a huge number of downloads, could you share what % of people are subscribed?

            1. 1

Thanks :) Currently, about 0.2% of users buy a subscription. With currently about 8000 downloads per month, that makes 16 new subscriptions per month. And I think 0.2% is MUCH too low. My goal is 2%.

My app is already 5 years old and there are in-app purchases only since the beginning of this year.

How much % are subscribed in your app "Timelog"?

              1. 2

Good luck! 8k downloads per month is a crazy number so I'm sure you'll get there if you keep at it!

As for Timelog it's still early days! There are ~5 downloads per day and there have been less than 200 downloads in total, but 2 people have paid for the "plus" version! So that's just a little over 1%.

  17. 1

Hey Steve! Gread idea! But I think this shouldn't end up in spam here and everyone should really use the app for a while before leaving a review. Google for example has a good detection system for fake ratings. So don't spam with reviews but give honest reviews :)

I have downloaded your App VoxRec. It was the first time I downloaded an app of this kind and it was a good opportunity for me to check if such an app could be helpful for me

    I left you a review in german :) (https://ibb.co/8xvxSpw)

If someone is interested in a calorie counter app, which works completely offline and protects your privacy by not storing any data online, I would appreciate your feedback on my app :) If you think that the app is not worth 5 - stars then please let me know your suggestions for improvement.

Link to my app: FAST - Calorie Counter

    1. 2

Yes, I absolutely agree. I will keep the apps installed for a few days and engage randomly. I am not sure how much traction this post will get anyway :)

I am also recording my interaction as UX and product design is my speciality so I hope I can also help other people to improve their product.

    2. 1

Ok, as I did for the other apps, I'll give you unsolicited opinion too :)

      • Onboarding illustrations could be vectors. The text is sharp and the images are blurry at the edges.
      • Too much text. No need to talk about other apps, tell me in as little words what you want to tell me.
      • You're willing to listen, so now I feel justified with my comments :) but really, only thing I needed to know is that you are protecting my data, everything else is either irrelevant or distant (just in time information)
      • TOO MUCH GREEN - everything is green, the top navigation bar, the button, the image. Actionable elements should be different so I can learn that if something is green - it's something to tap on.
      • Too much text..
      • Oh, the screen swipes as a whole :)
      • I like the quick input of calories. I would make it the first thing on the screen so when I use this daily, I open the app and tap and close it. But maybe the story will unfold itself.
      • The body weight entering could also be preset, no? It can show 4 values because once entered it does not change so drastically day to day (or week to week) so the app could guess where it is.
      • Statistics is a premium feature - ok, where can I buy it? Missing CTA*
      • I found it in the menu. Push for the sale!
      • Oooh, there is another app and that one is all RED - I get it now :-D
      • There are too many cogs to do settings. I know this is Android thing but you can create a beautiful experience with super clean UI that people will love to use

I think that you could replace the onboarding that did not have value with:

      • Enter your weight, height, m/f, I doubt DOB is needed, you can ask for age. (not all on one screen plz)
      • Enter your daily calory goal

I'll write a review on the store tomorrow!

      1. 1

@steveo Wow this is an amazing Feedback! Thank you very much. Many things you have noticed are already on my todo list. Especially I am very unhappy with the onboarding screens. For this an App - Update is already in the planning! But you also mentioned some things that I haven't noticed so far. More work for me to do but that is good :)

      2. 1

@OPunktSchmidt - see my comment here

I'd like to extend this offer to you, too.

You have 140k downloads and $160 revenue... expletives here that's the conversion of 0.0011. If I 1000x your conversion in 3 months, would you think about profit share? :-D

        1. 1

@steveo I think that the two numbers are not correlated. My app is already 5 years old and therefore has many downloads. But I have not monetized it for a long time. I have increased my revenue by a factor of 10 since April and I am learning more every day. First of all I want to see how far I can increase it on my own. Maybe I will come back to this later :)

          1. 1

I guessed that it cannot be but I could not help to make an exaggerated point haha.

Still, if you are working on the app, I'm happy to share my experience and knowledge. I am looking for early adopters of the analytics platform we built for our client apps and for ourselves. By having the right data seen in the right way, I'm making product changes that result in ±80-100% increase in revenue every month (mainly by uncovering very obvious things (once you see it, it's obvious, but not before lol)

    3. 1

I am charging my Android lol. Is there an iOS version of your app?
If not, I'll review on Android in a few hours.

      1. 1

No, unfortunately there is currently no iOs - version. Thank you :)

    1. 1

      Done! Quick feedback Markus:

      • The app does not rank high enough even when searching by title. First I thought it was not released in the UK, but eventually, I found it. It looks like competitive space. There are some things you can do with better title and subtitle to make sure you rank higher.
      • It starts like an app for kids, but after selecting my avatar it does not look like app for kids anymore because there is way too much text and lot of things to choose from in the UI - onboarding would help, for example the feature of writing the numbers by hand is great in my opinion
      • The hand writing could not recognise 1 (recognised as 4) and other numbers. It was bit frustrating
      • The test is a bit plain in design, when you make mistake it scrolls to the bottom and when you scroll it's not clear that you cannot clear the field -> I'd suggest to remove the whole thing and same way you show Well Done, show "Try again" - there is no need for the explanation, neither for a kid, nor for an adult.

Happy to dive deeper if interested!

      1. 1

Hi @mn1 , I also couldn't find it in the German App Store. Just via the URL. Your screenshots look great. Maybe you can localize the app for better ASO and search results.

There's a layout bug on the first onboarding screen on an iPhone 8 iOS 13. The subtitle "Math and logic training for kids" is clipped. And the second checkmark text is missing. So the first impression is a bit broken.

I would work on the design to focus the primary elements and put secondary things a bit more in the background visually. Duolingo is very nice and simple UX wise. If I switch tabs my current lesson is cancelled. This is non standard iOS behavior. Perhaps you should also have the lesson as modal to make it focused.

The onboarding was simple. I think the rest of the app could be similar. I'd do more testing with kids. For example I would also like to tap on the whole green box "today's free math lesson" and not just the "start lesson" footer.

Why is there this empty space below the tab bar?

I can't go back from a game without starting it.

        So I agree with Steve.

        My app: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481868897

      2. 1

Wow. Great feedback. Very helpful, thanks.

  18. 1

Great initiative! Good opportunity for real feedback on new and existing apps.
