Some kind of human powered news aggregator where the news article is converted into a survey of where the readers stand on the issue. After ar reader submits their feedback, presumably after reading the article, they can see what others users said. They can then respond to these messages and "understand the other side"

    2. 1

Human curated news feed of 5 articles. Really interested in the balanced opinions feature but not sure how that fits into the product (based on the 10 seconds I had to scan the page).

      1. 1

Thanks for your feedback. This is how it fits:
Every news story will have a 2 option poll on which you can vote and then post opinions on it. The opinion (or comments) will have a chat or conversation like UI having one side blue and one side red. Therefore, giving opinions from both sides to everyone.

Since you couldn't get this in one glance, we need to work on the copy.

    3. 1

Service that provides a newsletter about certain general news topics with multiple articles per topic from different viewpoints.

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback but I believe I really need to work on the copy.

    4. 1

Something to help you get other people's opinions on the news. It's unclear to me how it works or what kind of app it is.

      1. 1

Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it.
So news platform on which every news story has a 2 option poll below it and users can vote on it and then post their opinions on it. Through this, we are able to collect opinions from both sides and hence enabling users to form a balanced opinion.
Does this help you to form a clear picture of the 'how' part? If yes, then I'll try to incorporate somethings from what have written above on the landing page.
If not, then I'll try to simplify it more on my end.

        1. 1

Is it a native app? A web app? Do I have to browse the news on your app or is it integrated with where I already read my news?

For example, most of my news is read through Feedbin, so it would be a lot to ask for me to start using another app for finding/reading news. It would be great if it supplemented the news where I was already reading it.

          1. 1

It's a native app. You need to browse the news on our app. I understand going to a different website/app is inconvenient for you. That's why news discovery is not what we are selling.

We are trying to sell the convenience of finding opinions from both sides of the news. Opinions are divided into 2 parallel sections (one for the argument and the other against the argument), which allows users to consume it easily.

So focus would be in killing the current echo chamber you might be living in. Does this feel relevant to you?

            1. 1

To be honest, probably not. I have a fairly specialized sourcing/reading flow, so I'm probably not representative of the average person.

              1. 1

oh, okay. Thanks for the feedback anyway!

        1. 1

Nope. Your copy is very clear πŸ‘πŸ».

          1. 1

            Thank u for reviewing!

    1. 2

An app to keep u in check?

      1. 1

Close, the purpose is that you are hiring a real human boss that will review and follow up on your tasks/projects and hold you accountable.

        I appreciate the feedback!

        1. 2

wait what? i have to pay for others to put me in check?

          1. 1

Yes, some people have a hard time delivering on their goals without external accountability. I work with people like this, they are rockstars at work, would never let you down. Outside of work, without someone holding them accountable, they procrastinate and are not able to finish tasks.

Gretchen Rubin labels these people as obliger. They’re very motivated by accountability. They really don’t like being reprimanded or letting others down.

Hired Boss is the external accountability they need to be as productive outside the office as they are in the office.

            1. 1

I like your idea, I'm a bit like this. I find myself putting in more effort if someone can hold me accountable.

              1. 1

I would love to have you as a beta user, send me an email if your interested.

                1. 1

Wish i could but i'm in a bit of a rough patch right now to participate and give valuable feedback. I do wish you the best of luck with testing though and perhaps i'll join in the future.

                  1. 1

No worries, I hope things turn around for you soon!

            2. 1

              how is the traction?

              1. 1

I just launched the MVP this week, so I just have trial users currently.

                1. 1

did u talk to a lot of people?

                  1. 1

I talked to basically zero people Β―\(ツ)/Β―

That's not the recommended approach, but in my case we are already doing this as consulting for other people with good success. I'm wrapping the consulting up with some SAAS technology so we can scale and make it more streamlined.

It's rewarding to see how you can get people unstuck, just by giving them some help on breaking down large projects and holding them accountable.

                    1. 1

i see, where do u find ur customers?

    2. 1

      Boss as a service

    3. 1

A service where you hire someone to keep you accountable for your work/personal tasks and help you break down / plan work and goals.

      1. 1

That's correct, thanks for the feedback.

    4. 1

A productivity app. Not sure what it does or why it's better than other productivity apps.

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback, I do need to work on the copy. The app is really a productized service, where you are paying for a human boss to hold you accountable to your goals. They will follow up on your tasks to make sure you are completing them.

        1. 1

That sounds like a good idea. You should say something like that on your landing page πŸ˜‰.

        Hi @markmanx - Today, I launched an updated homepage - https://www.ProsperCircle.org

Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

        Thank again.

        1. 1

Hey bud, good work, I see the value in this site. Job posts are nicely laid out too, very clear to read and straight forward to use. Just a couple of design tips; I feel the site intro is very cluttered (everything above the fold). Partly because there is very little variation in terms of text colour and font size (i.e. the title of the form looks very similar to the labels of the fields and the placeholder text, which in turn also look similar in size to the 'why did we build ProsperCircle' link text). This makes it difficult to scan that section, and to know what content is important. I would suggest making the hierarchy of information more easy to follow by using size and colour.

Also consider giving the background of the intro section a subtle shade of gray or some other colour, so it's not completely white, and keeping the form white so it stands out more as a form.

All in all, great idea. Nice one!

          1. 1

hey man - thank you for taking so much time to look at the landing page and share your thoughts.

            You are amazing.

Love your feedback on fonts and "hierarchy of information".

Let me try to clean it up a bit.

I'm not a designer by any stretch, just follow my gut instincts, so getting your detailed feedback is super useful.

            Thanks again.

Generates GraphQL or Rest interfaces for existing databases. Interested in whether it's a tool that generates the client source code for you, or whether it's a SaaS solution (i.e. does it proxy access to your db?), or both?. Couldn't work that point out from the 10 seconds I had to scan the page.

        1. 1

Yeah but as a developer I usually go through the best practices and regularly review the security settings for everything. I could get some value out of your application but I think the target audience is IT compliance at companies that don't have developers. So much obvious stuff like 2FA gets overlooked at those companies, and they are the majority.

I'm not really sure; I don't think I work in a domain where I'd use this. I think it's a reviews site for tools that can be used by publishers (e.g. magazines and newspapers) to build their websites?

Interesting, text stories is not something I've come across. Is this a big/popular thing?

      1. 1

There are apps that let you read text stories like Hooked (10M+ downloads), Yarn (10M+ downloads), etc. But they are very expensive and don't let you write/share your own stories. Messagink has an editor which lets you create stories as a text for free and it completely belongs to the author

It can be expanded into a place where you find interesting conversations, interactive fiction, etc.

It's a framework for Terraform. So instead of building your infrastructure configuration from scratch writing HCL, you can use the framework as a starting point.

It's similar to how one would start a new web app with their favourite web framework, instead of writing everything from scratch in language X.

As for the actual automation tool, you are free to use whatever floats your boat to run the terrafom plan or terraform apply commands. Could be Jenkins, or Gitlab or Github Actions.

        1. 2

          Hi,

I would add a tagline near the top pf the page that just says what it does in one sentence, as short as possible

          For example:
Manage all your meetings and shared info in one place.

          Mark

      1. 1

Sort of - thanks for looking :)

        1. 1

I think this is a good exercise in seeing others's perspective, and making sure your tagline basically just says what the site does.

Eg: TimeyTim - Schedule posts to your webhooks

(have I got it right now?)

          1. 1

I guess I should say, "correct but not the full story."

There are 3 features now and I may need to pare it down to something fundamental. They are:

            • Tasks: scheduled webhooks, but the important piece is "through an API"

            • Monitors: periodically check a URL to confirm an expected response

            • Watchdogs: countdown timers that alert you if they expire

            Sample use cases might be:

            • Tasks: a user performs an action on your app. Your app creates a Task for 3 weeks later and a Task for 3 months later. After 3 weeks, TimeyTim pings your app with a userId in the payload so you can check in with the user about their experience. After 3 months, you get another ping so you can clean up the user's account if they're no longer active.

            • Monitors: pretty self-explanatory. You could create these via the web UI, or you could make an API integration so each new blog post you publish creates a matching Monitor to ensure the page remains in working order.

            • Watchdogs: say you periodically install updates and reboot your server. During shutdown, the server creates a Watchdog that expires in 5 minutes. During boot, it deletes the Watchdog, and if it doesn't, you get an alert that your server didn't reboot successfully.

I'm wondering if there's any value in promoting a term like JavaScript's setTimeout, except it's setLongTimeout... I wonder if JS devs would understand that more readily.

Any thoughts? Thanks for reading, @mediamarkup :)

            1. 2

              Hi,

It all sounds pretty useful and I get it now, but I think this exercise is to try and get users to understand what you are doing (in 10 seconds) without all of the above text and explanation. Even if its just for the Core feature to get people in.

I realise some things, especially technical require some explanation,

maybe something else would work, eg::

              TimeyTim
All things web-hook related; API driven scheduling and monitoring.

It usually takes some time to get it right...

Yes, I think it's much clearer than before.

Tag lines should basically say what the site does, so anyone can understand what it is.

For instance, what would be your description in 50 characters, eg on https://fiddy.co/ does it make sense to everyone

          1. 1

            Thanks !

For fiddy.co, it's axactly what it says it is. And it's even meta , that's clever.

From a design viewpoint, I think you should just keep the left panel above the fold. and make the "next" button. It will shorten the time to "Aha moment".

But the type of solution you propose should be at the same level.

Otherwise it doesn't enter my visual memory, doesn't give me enough reasons to scroll down. And if I leave the page right there, it will disappear from my consciousness in a matter of seconds.

      1. 1

Gotcha! Will give it a shot with this feedback and ping you :)

    4. 1

It's a small search engine as a downloadable app doesn't track users.

I understand your product only because I remembered one of your previous presentation post here.

From the landing page only, I had a hard time understanding it was actually an internet browser app, I think you should make that more crystal clear !

For instance your headline seems too generic so either change it or at least the text below it.

      1. 1

I'll give it a shot at improving it. Would it be fine to ping you once I do that? πŸ™‚
