Posting on product/business blog vs. personal blog?

Interested to hear what other indie hackers are doing.

Can be so easy as the only person working on something to tie your identity to the product.

I'm new to blogging on my personal site but want to try make that separation better this year.

I do both! If it's a "meta" post about how the business is doing, various projects, etc. it goes on my personal blog.

If it'd be relevant to the customers of the product, like product updates or content marketing, then clearly it goes on the product blog.

Thinking about each having a clear topic helps, I think. It's also better for SEO to have a more well-defined niche if possible.

if you can, yes! agree with this.

my suggestion is to not try to bifurcate them right now.... unless you're a seasoned blogger / writer.

... if you're just starting out, just start one blog. and see how that works for 30 days. use IH!!

yeah that's a good point, making one blog successful first is really important or you risk sticking with none of them.

i think a lot of very passionate folks get caught up in the excitement of starting...

... but don't yet know how hard it is to write, consistently, for just ONE publication!

I split my product blog from my personal blog a couple of months back. I might be an exception and/or it might be too soon to draw any conclusions, but while posts on my personal blog got and still get a decent amount of traffic, the posts on the product blog get near zero traffic, which does make me wonder whether the time and effort of splitting them was the right thing to have done.

If you are building an audience for your product/business, keep is separate from your personal blog. Your customers don't want to hear you complain :) about how much work it is to create the product/service. You can put those kinds of things on your personal blog. Use the product/business blog to highlight features, case studies, upcoming features, etc.

I had (and actually still do) similar concern. Ultimately you should decide would your current and potential clients benefit from your posts on the company blog or not. I stopped posting technical articles, some of the behind the scenes, and my personal opinions which don't add any value to existing customers and would bring irrelevant traffic too. So I post these to my personal blog.
