Posting on reddit

Reddit is definitely a ocean with sharks when you're trying to promote anything at all.

I use it to promote my blog and I definitely failed most times. But when it was successful, it was my major source of traffic for that post. Sometimes I succeeded with just sharing the link. Although that's a risky way to do it as it can be perceived as self-promotion.

Hopefully you can find a way to promote your services/projects. Anyway, don't forget there is a rule that says you can only do self-promotion for 1/10 of your posts. So the key is to be helpful in the communities you're interested in. Then you get the hang of it and understand the culture. After that, you will be more prepared to promote yourself, but always do it with transparency and adding value before putting in the link.

Reddit is like the most toxic place to show off your product. In my case, we nearly got banned for linking to a product that the majority of redditors considered too good to be free. So basically I got accused of counterfeiting my own app. Also, reddit is where people tell you to "go die in a fire" because you refused to add extra support for their obscure outdated equipment where the original manufacturer went bankrupt years ago.

The post was doing quite well, but unfortunately, it got flagged. I guess I should have been active in the webdev subreddit. You win some, you lose some!
