Posting to Reddit Communities

I'm curious about how you approach posting your product to relevant subreddits, do you receive negative feedback/comments due to your post effectively being an advertisement? What strategy do you use to make the post appear inviting but not overly 'Hey I'm capitalising on free advertisement'?
