Pre-product landing page that does user research/interviews well?

Hi Indiehackers! I'm planning to build and launch a landing page for a product to collect emails and test market interest, while/before I build the product. Rather than just collecting emails and tracking sign-up rates, which doesn't offer much insight on how should the product be built, I also intend to incorporate some user research as well. There are 2 approaches I'm considering

a) Build a typeform and get user feedback. Scalable and less effort (more time for product building). But loses the user conversation which could be very valuable.
b) Arrange one on one interview sessions with the users who've signed up. Not scalable, more effort (time away from building), but obviously could have valuable insight.

Note that the target segment I have in mind are business owners, ie: a B2B product

I was wondering if any of you could share any successful examples or case studies of how such user research is done successfully pre-product? Any recommendations?

Thanks lots!

This is the only way to go.

    hmmmm...

Couldn't you solve part of this by having a kind of expanded landing page. You could ask for the user/profile data. With one of the questions being. If we want to get more information from you the user) can we get in touch? Or, as we build out this service/product/etc, we might need more information from our potential users. Would you be interested in completing a survey at that point?

So, if you discuss a bit what the app/service is going to be, you can then ask a few basic questions and collect data on your initial respondents. Hopefully, some will allow you to get further data from them.

Yep, this is the most straight-forward and common approach. I've tried this before with my last product. The rate of consent to contact them for further questions is low, from past experience (or maybe my page wasn't good enough).

Just wondering if there are more effective ways to do this out there, especially in this case it's a B2B product

      Indeed, you're spot on.

You read about people advocating the approach of building the landing page first, get some sign-ups/emails, test if people care about your offering first before building it etc...

We could consider offering incentives such as 3 months free when the product is launched (just making up an example).

How would you test the market?

          Thanks Thomas. Good points overall.

Sure no harm sharing. The product is a workflow platform that helps businesses to digitise their paper flows
