Every day, Google is doing more to turn free clicks into paid clicks. They do this primarily in two ways:
Google used to tell you every search phrase that sent a visitor to your site, and then in 2011, they switched 99% of those keywords to "not provided." This basically forced businesses to use AdWords to rediscover their keywords or simply do without.
More recently, Google launched Search Console Insights, which is a paired-down version of Search Console. It's the same data, but there's way less of it.
My prediction is that within the next few years, Google is going to sunset Search Console in favor of Search Console Insights, further limiting our access to search traffic data and pushing us to purchase more PPC ads.
What do y'all think? Am I crazy, or does this sound right to you?
