Hey IHers,
I built a tool called Storytool that makes it easy to produce explainer comics. See below.π
I'm looking for:
Any recommendations for how to launch on Producthunt (are there particular hunters that might be interested in hunting this product?)
Any creative ideas for how to promote these comics via social media -> twitter, online forums, reddit etc...
I always love getting to know new people so if you want to talk about Storyteller or your own project follow me on twitter: @wschlender
#landing-page-feedback
Looks great. Signed up for the early access. I'd potentially use it for making blog post images, jokes, Youtube slide vids (?), Kindle comic books.
Awesome! I'll send you an email with access info in a bit.
I like it a lot. I would use it, what about pricing?
It's probably one of the most marketable products I've seen in a long time. Do custom stories and publish them on Reddit. On Reddit, you can find subreddits for every celebrity you can think of. For example, do a story about The Rock and publish it on his subreddit.
Before doing so, I would change the landing page. Ryan Hoover and Pieter Levels are well-known in the makers' community but not outside. And I see your product basically done for social media, so you are limiting your reach in this way.
I could be wrong obviously, but it seems a great viral product. I don't know the competition, maybe you have competitors than I am not aware of so you decide to sell it to the markers' niche. In that case, it would make sense.
Mike gave you a good suggestion. You can have a free version with credits at the bottom and a paid version for people that don't the credits.
Pricing... heh... yeah...
I'm not sure yet. Your credits idea is more or less what I had in mind so far... but we'll see. If I have to try to get it to go viral then charging for it complicates things.
I had the idea this morning to charge to run comic contests on twitter. I don't know if it would work but I might explore that idea a bit.

Oh wow! This is really cool and much needed - not only for founders but can see that in a consumer space taking on :) unique pitfall to be carefully I guess will be on how easy it's to use.
This is cool! I just signed up for early access. SN: the "submit" button for the Google Form took several clicks for it to go through/find it after hitting the "Enter" key didn't work. Not sure if it was just a one-off glitch, but may want to look into it.
Sweet! I'll email you shortly. Yeah, I had some of the forms set as required. Maybe that was the culprit? Anyway, I turned those off so hopefully that fixes the problem.
This looks rad @schlendeus !
Could you add a little 'made with storyteller.com' credit at the bottom of the strip? That way if someone finds one shared on social media and thinks it's cool, they know where to go to make their own!
Hey Mike,
Of course ;) -- It's on my roadmap.
Do you use virality as one of your growth tactics with Jekyll Themes? Do you have any tips on what works and doesn't?
Good stuff!
Yeah I have a little 'Jekyll Themes' link in the footer of every theme β definitely works well and a good SEO boost I think for my primary search term. Some folks will always want to remove it, which is cool β the suggestion you have above about that being a premium feature is a good way to handle it.
If you could figure out a way to have it as actual text + link rather than an image (maybe an iframe or something?) it would be even better for you, but not sure how that'd work in practice!
Also drop me a message/email or something when you launch on PH and I'll make sure to give you upvote :)
Hey Mike I definitely will and thanks for the help! Let me know if I can ever return the favor.
Looks awesome Walt.
Define your target market, in this case looks like marketers and startups.
Might help to start some email walk through journeys.
And guide people through making a great little comic for their business or marketing idea.
I joined as an early tester.
I'm also in same boat trying to get more users and engage with them.
Thanks for the encouragement Pete.
When you say email walkthrough journeys are you thinking I could just directly email founders and marketers?
Thanks for signing up. I'll send you an email in a bit.
Yeah. For example, marketing is moving more towards journey based stories. Like creating the customer journey. Loosely basing this on the Hero's journey can deeply connect with the customer experience. So this whole thing could be fleshed out through a series of emails.
e.g. the hero's journey simplified.
Need - customer has a need.
Go - the customer makes a move.
Search - looks for their solution
Find - finds it.
Price - pays a price.
Return - the journey back with it.
Home - returned home having searched, paid the price and come back with the golden widget.
There is other material out there with a similar customer journey message. I recently read a book by Renee Hasseldine who has her take on the customer journey process. https://shareyourpassion.com.au/
Just a matter of deciding on some general universal steps and packaging it into a walkthrough for a business to prepare and plan their most effective customer story.
