Pricing

Pricing seems to be quite a hard thing to determine to me. One thing is what I think the product is worth, another is what people would actually pay for it. It seems to not always correspond.

I currently have Free, Pro($29/month), and Enterprise($99/month).

While it seems that people are looking, I am not sure I have hit the nail on the head, in terms of what people are actually willing to pay.

How do you deal with this issue?

Pricing has been one of the toughest parts for me too. I’m getting ready to launch an AI chess coach, and figuring out what people will pay versus what I think it's worth has been a gap I’m still trying to close.

Something I’ve been exploring is talking directly to early users with questions like:

    • At what price would this feel like a no-brainer?

    • At what point would you hesitate or look for a free alternative?

Have you gotten any patterns in the feedback from Free vs Pro users? I’m curious how much usage or feedback is informing your current tiers.

I have actually not been asking my existing users. I have not known if it was "cool" to just write an email to them, since I have their email from signing up.

Thats interesting! Are you then using an engine to find the best moves, and then feeding the best moves versus the played move to an llm, and having it explain the concepts? I think there might be a lot of fun things to try :D

Yep, that's exactly the core idea!

We use a chess engine to calculate the objectively best moves and then compare them with what the user played. But instead of stopping at “this was a blunder,” we pipe that game state, decision, and delta into an LLM that's trained to teach, not just critique.

We’re actively building toward more playful and immersive ways to explore these ideas, whether that’s coaching personalities (like a Roasty Hustler or Serious Grandmaster), interactive drills, or even letting users ask things like “what was I thinking?” to get metacognitive insights from Chessy 😄

Tons of fun stuff to try and always open to ideas like yours!
