Privacy minded, but too cheap to do anything about it? I need help
Hey friends,
I am wondering if y’all have any ideas on how to market this side project I’m working on.
The idea came from an observation that there are all these privacy minded people out there that don’t want to use Google Analytics, because of privacy and data sharing reasons, but are also cheap and don’t want to pay for a hosted web analytics – it’s hard to beat free.
I was laughing to myself, because I figured you could probably create a free, self-hosted version of Google Analytics just by posting your web logs through a Google Form into Google Sheets, then creating a dashboard in there. The irony is that it’s still Google powered, but simply due to the difference in terms of service between Sheets and Analytics, you get all the free compute, but don’t have to sacrifice on privacy.
Idk it feels like there is a pithy, punchy story to tell here. I was hoping some of y’all could help me come up with good copy, or fun ways to market this.
It’s not a serious project, just an open source thing to poke fun at the internal tension between people who want to care about privacy, but are too cheap to really do anything about it.
