Does anyone have any tips for creating an MVP for a subscription service to private courses / episodes?
I want to be able to push this out as quickly as possible (eventually will do Firebase Auth or something similar).
Just send a link to a Google Drive folder? Unlisted webpage? Downloadable ZIP of video files and other content?
Hey Josh 👋
Do you already have a website/landing page?
And who's your audience? I imagine different folks will have varying tolerances for workarounds.
Out of curiosity, what sort of content are you making?
I do already have a landing page. WorshipDev
My audience is people who are already semi-technical but looking to learn more. Content is mostly courses, short screencasts, and training.
I'm thinking of using something like Payhip and just have all videos be able to be downloaded, or just use Magiclink with links to private YouTube videos or Dropbox folders.
Beautiful!! I love how simple and "to the point" your landing page is 😍
Would you rather have all of the content in one place (like in a page on your website) or is it easier to keep the content where is it (youtube, dropbox, etc).
Two thoughts that come to mind: If you want to keep everything on your site you could use Memberstack to quickly add a paywall w/ user accounts. If you don't want to add any content to your website then Payhip or Memberful sound like the way to go 👍
Hey Josh,
If you're looking to MVP something and are already using Google Drive, you may want to check out [Kbee] (https://kbee.app). Kbee lets you create a branded and searchable knowledge base from a folder in Google Drive. We have the ability for you to embed Kbee behind a paywall or your own login system so you can control who has access to your content.
Would love to get your feedback and see if this could work for you. Happy to offer an annual Kbee Pro subscription in exchange for your feedback.
Check us out and let me know what you think!
Thanks!
Two thoughts come to mind:
AuthGuardian by OneGraph. Free (for now?) and pretty straightforward for setting up auth (though you say without auth...lol, well I'll still suggest since they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you 😂 )
Private GitHub Repo or a GitHub Team? I mean that still runs the risk of people sharing it, but I don't know. Might be worth looking at!
Thanks Joe! I actually had looked into AuthGuardian and couldn't remember Payhip's name, so I appreciate it!
Just remembered payhip. Might be worth checking out. They have a free tier too.
I think there are a few options:
As a twist: you could prompt them to enter their email. Then check that email in your DB, see if they’ve ordered. Same pros/cons as a global password, but at least then you’d know (and be able to limit) if someone shares their email and a bunch of people use it.
There are some good thoughts here. Thanks so much!
What you want to achieve is a bit vague, but you can use Gumroad, for example, to distribute your content to people who paid. You can give access to a youtube private channel. You can also share the link to your drive. Or you could use one of the many ready-made solutions for teachers, such as teachable, or podia.
That's super helpful! I suppose I just wanted to hear more about what others are doing to provide paid material. I appreciate the response!
