Product for developers

Curious to know if there are indie hackers here making product for other developers?

If yes, how do you market them?

My SaaS boilerplate https://www.saasforge.dev is definitely for developers.
I'm writing blog, post twits and FB posts. Use cases are on the way. I also participate in corresponding reddits and monitor IH posts. The content marketing is very hard for me though.

You and Gabe have similar products. Whats your twitter handle? I will follow you.

Have previously created a product for web designers looking to hand off to front end devs - it lets you create typography design in the browser and then you can export to CSS or Sketch. We had some moderate success emailing newsletters, relevant magazines or developers - it was tweeted by Smashing Magazine, CSS tricks, Val Head - people in the industry - I think people shared it because it was a problem we were having in our own web projects, and it turns out from the feedback others find it useful too. My co-designer also wrote blog posts about typography design and this directed people to the app too, about 4500 to date (but over time!)

Definitely a problem every web project will face including me. Did not know about this solution. Thanks for sharing. Are you on Twitter ? Also share Link to the blog please

Good to hear! We're updating it shortly to improve the CSS output and making it a paid app.

        Yeah I'm on twitter at https://twitter.com/jamiegilman 👍

        Here's the article he wrote - https://uxdesign.cc/a-better-way-to-create-typography-design-systems-689c851dc616

I'm working on a product for developers (divjoy.com). I market it by talking by being active on Twitter (twitter.com/gabe_ragland) and by periodically promoting it on a React.js newsletter I run with 5k subscribers (usehooks.com).

Cool product. Thank you for replying.

How long did it take you to get to 5K subscribers ? What strategy did you follow to get those subscribers?

I launched it about a year and a half ago. Most of the growth was in the first couple of months, thanks to some prominent people in the React community sharing it on Twitter.

I won't lie - marketing is hard. I've been posting tutorials related to it on dev.to and recently posted more business related side of things on hackernoon.com. Aside from that, Twitter, is a good place to reach out to developers, especially if you get the tags right and have good content.

I've also posted on various forums, like elixir forum, since it's built with Elixir. Electron apps directory, since the frontend is in Electron, etc.

Places like HN, Lobste.rs, and Reddit are also good, but you have to be careful not to spam advertise.

I was about to ask the same question, but in my case, my product, "SoftMeter"
    https://www.starmessagesoftware.com/softmeter
is only for desktop software developers, which I guess is a considerably smaller audience than the web developers.

I made posts about it in Facebook groups dedicated to Delphi programming (Delphi is the same as the pascal language). This was the only promotion that returned some results and thus, SoftMeter is mostly used in Delphi applications.

I did not find another way to target desktop software developers.

Have you tried any paid ads or any other marketing channel? Are you on Twitter - I’ll follow you.

I tried Google Adwords with very little success because the term "Application analytics" is new and rarely used, while the parent term "Analytics" is huge and skews the paid and organic results.

For the specific term, my website's blog article ranks at #7
        https://www.google.com/search?q=application+analytics
but like I said, this term is not known or frequently used.

        P.S. I am mainly a developer, not a specialist in marketing/advertising.
