After reading tutorials and studying what it makes to rate on PH, the biggest thing that makes you rank well is to be in the "makers-crew". That's it. With this you get the upvotes/re-tweets and put you on the top where the newbies see the "makers-community" daily new products.
Connections and be with the influencers is more important than the product itself
I got a top 400 all time product on Product hunt with no audience or network.
Build something great, understand where your potential audience hang out and you will be fine.
Agree,
Have nearly 1000 subscribers on:
https://www.producthunt.com/posts/stoked-nomads
But has 0 makers community relation.
So if you don't have several connections that makes you stay on top as Bart says. You are never going to have exposure.
You need some early push to stand out. To be top top, has quality in product relation. But just after exposure
I would work on the design a lot. Product Hunt enjoys well designed sites.
The niche fits perfectly with PH.
My guess is you don't know where your audience and PH audience hang out. Did you ask for feedback on any slack or FB groups?
π totally agree about improving the design.
But looking at analytics. My visits are not coming much from PH.
So, how can this affect on upvotes relation if they even don't see the design? π€
PRODUCT HUNT doesn't approve new users that upvotes new products. So, how can people not from the PH community to support a product?? They need to register days before π
For me it looks you have to be in the community and build for the niche. And being more public on the tribe, so better. And it is like everywhere. Nothing diferent.
"multiple new accounts signing up and voting one product in the same period of time may trigger our spam detection." Marketing Examples
You post on slack groups with nomads who use PH?
I posted on FB groups with SaaS founders and marketers who used PH.
Half true. First 30-50 upvotes early are crucial. From there if your product sucks, it won't make it.
You use your connections to get the first few dozens of upvotes, sure. But afterward, it's all about virality and cool products.
Only a few can generate a few hundreds of upvotes thank to their network.
Agreed! That said, getting 30-50 early upvotes from your network is a very strong boost! The worst performing products in a day don't even get to 50, so starting with 50 means you're guaranteed to be in the middle of the pack at the worst.
I did a tiny launch for a micro project of mine and got about 4 friends to upvote early. Only once those 4 upvotes came in, did random people start upvoting it as well. Ended the day with 67 upvotes. Wrote about what I learned here https://pliao39.com/idea-to-product-hunt-launch
Respect your opion Bart :), but I think it isn't half true. At least 75% true.
So, get influencer friends, and the rest will come with time :)
I have released 3 products in the last ~6 months:
-1 top of the day
-1 top2
-1 top5
All released on tough days (midweek).
My "network" is 10-15 people.
I have never driven more than 100 upvotes to my product through all my channels.
There was no need for that.
So I am speaking from the experience.
There is more to it, but pretty much the rule of thumbs is that first 50-100 upvotes is everything.
I think you try too hard to find some hidden plot/strategy.
Thanks for the info
Will study your launches π
