Product Hunt Launch: Do I need a hunter?

I'm launching https://pagecheck.app on Tuesday on Product Hunt. Is it better to have a well-known hunter to submit the project or is it better to do it myself?
I've heard that generally projects that are submitted by certain hunters get more traffic than those that are submitted by the author.
Please let me know if you have any information or experience. Thank you!
I've always had a hunter launch my products because that's what I always read, but for the last one, I hunted myself, and we managed to get the top product of the day.
To this day, I still have no idea if it's the follower count (I only have 200 on PH), the caliber of followers, or if it matters at all.
Just make sure to post at 12:01am PST (if you hover over the timestamps of all top-front-page products, you'll see they were all around this time).

don't post at 12.01 you will get burried - in my experience 3-4am pst is the best time!
Product hunt is overrated. It’s not really worth strategizing about. It’s a temporary bump.
My first product failed because I tried checking all the boxes. Market where your customers are.
That is an excellent point. My app is used across a range of demos but my target market is women 25-40 who like to cook. I suspect only a subset of them are reading HN or PH.
Hit up news stations, news sites, food blogs, and Instagram accounts (I steer clear of "influencers" though since they hurt my brand IMO)
For sure! I didn’t use a hunter and got merely 9 referrals from PH on launch day. PH is definitely a more network based game compared to HN.

It’s featured on the front page but fall below the fold after a while it could be the product is not good enough or the competitions are more proactive in getting votes. Once it’s below the fold, there is no random algorithm resurfacing for second chances and then it gets buried. I don’t really have a big following so the result is not great. Published on HN a week earlier and it was top3 for a while in ShowHN and even appeared on front page briefly. The traffic was like 1.5k vs 9 referrals traffic(with 30 votes end of the day on PH) with more interesting discussions as well. 🤷♂️
We launched today with no real expectations and held the #1 spot, no hunter, second post. Just go for it!
Was some past post about 2 indiehackers with plenty of follower that would happily +1 projects..
