Hey Indies!
Last week I launched my platform on product hunt and for some reason it was not featured even if I had enough upvotes to be in 3rd place.
Yes, it is devastating feeling after everything you can do as a solo maker to prepare for your launch and get some feedback on your work.
My platform is free directory for no code tools which also lists management, marketing and sales tools to help no coders scale their projects, so everything I needed is feedback on my platform.
Around midnight I gave up and because I was not getting any response from PH support and I wanted to hammer my day by posting my project on Reddit groups.
I know many people fear Reddit for it's toxicity against users posting and promoting their projects, (I've been there many times) but I did it!
Posted in few subreddits and went to sleep. Next morning I was eager to start my day by reading reddit replies.
27 notifications was telling me it will be nice morning, either way by reading that I am failure or maybe I am onto something.
To my surprise I got a lot of positive and very constructive feedback. Redditors requesting new features, telling me they like the platform, what they would like to see more and what should I remove. Even some of the products I am listing on my platform reached out and said that my platform is much better than similar directories on the web.
And that is what I needed to hear, constructive feedback, not congratulations on my launch.
Share your project everywhere, don't be shy, every feedback is a good feedback and you never know how things will turn out next day.
My website is called Wewaat in case you want to throw some sh..t at me, feel free to do so!
Love you all!
Hey Gonzo, what subreddits did you post on?
Everything involved in business, ideas, startups...
Have you found posting to business subreddits more valuable than targeting no-code or developer subreddits so far?
It depends on your goals. Business subreddits can offer insights on market reception, while no-code/developer forums may provide technical feedback. Consider a balanced approach to tap into both perspectives for a comprehensive evaluation.
Thanks!
You definitely don’t want to launch on PH on day 1. Take some time to build a small user base and get them to test your product. Reddit is a very good place to start, also interacting with other makers on Twitter or if you’re building a B2B saas, you can try cold reaching on LinkedIn.
Also you should know that you don’t get only one shot on PH, you can do it again later
Yeah I know, I am one of the top 100 active users on PH, but something has changed recently, I had 400 upvotes and still... I launched products before, but now unless you have huge social following or you paid a hunter, your best chances are to do it on weekend.
