Product ideas I wish I had time for 🚀

Taming my shiny object syndrome has been one of the biggest challenges over the past year.

I often wonder what I'd be working on if I didn't have my current product.

If I had to start from scratch today, here's 3 things I'd focus on right now 👇

1️⃣ Niche job boards 👨‍💻

To this day, I'd still love to build a product in the recruitment landscape.

There's so much money that exchanges hands in the industry.

If I was to build a niche job board, I'd focus on 2 specific verticals - digital marketers & account managers.

Before my current product, I was already building a recruitment solution for digital marketers. This was, of course, before covid change my path...

I built my previous site, ClickThrough, to 14k consistent sessions per month.

With this traffic, I'd still love to add a job board to the site and see how it performs.

When I initially researched companies hiring for marketers, there was also one common trend I found.

The two roles with the most demand in startups were developers and account managers.

A dedicated job board for account managers could also serve a quality niche.

2️⃣ A mapping app for truckers 🗺

A friend I know has been a trucker for most of their life, and every month, they constantly ask me to build a solution for a real problem they have...

Mobile mapping apps for truckers aren't optimised for tucking routes. Instead, they just integrate with the default Google Maps services.

As a trucker, they need a way to input the dimensions of their vehicle, then find a suitable route that caters for their vehicle size.

The trucking industry is large, antiquated, and in need of innovation.

I always see Sam Parr from the Hustle talk about opportunities in the industry and I couldn't agree more.

Selling to businesses with large fleets would be an effective way to scale a user base.

3️⃣ Notion template library 📚

As Notion continually becomes more mainstream, I'm seeing more industries adopt the tool for everyday use cases.

Creating an extensive template library would be an effective way to service this ubiquitous need.

Although there's no shortage of Notion templates already available, I believe there'd be value in creating your own unique library of custom templates for all verticals.

The templates could include solutions for work tools, or even templates for games like DnD.

While in my opinion, these products could create viable opportunities, the main reason I haven't pursued these is due to a lack of passion in each field.

As a founder, I think it's essential to have a genuine interest within the industry your product serves.
