[Product Market Fit] - How did you find your first customers for your SaaS?

It has been two months since I launched my software company. I've been cold emailing a number of individuals in the last several weeks in an attempt to get my first client. In the meanwhile, I was optimising for SEO with blog posts and YouTube videos.

None of this compelled me to attend a meeting.

I have a lot of rivals in my field. My networks as a student are incredibly restricted.

What did you do to get your first 2-3 customers?
What advise do you have?

Thanks

Doing outreach on LinkedIn is easier and if you send 40-50 InMails/day, you'll get 2-3 interested persons daily.

Focus on this, iterate with messaging, and don't try to be active on every channel possible.

P.S. What does your company exactly do?

P.P.S. Cold emailing is a skill to master first.
Also, forget about any SEO or content game in the beginning - they're for the long run.

Hey Daniel, I've found some success reaching out on LinkedIn cold (exact network will depend on where you think your ideal customer profile sits). I'm entering a brand new market cold as well, and believe that cold outreach gives the strongest signal anyway. Warm contacts give you a lot of false positives.

Just these last 2 weeks I've been running a process that's a bit more personalized and specifically mentioning payment, and getting a 16% positive response rate which I'm quite happy with.

Happy to share more if you're interested, but this is just what's worked for me so far!

My first couple of customers were companies I knew and had done some consulting work for. The next set were mostly from Facebook Ads and then Google Ads.

I'm in an Industry where I know any one in my Industry what should I do.

Michael Seibel covers that scenario in this podcast: https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/22-michael-seibel

Basically, it's just don't build a solution you haven't experienced the problem for though.

I think talking to people with that problem in the early days is important, get out there to events, meetups, conferences, whatever you can to find some people to bounce your idea off.

Beyond that I'd just run ads, which will help you learn if anyone looks for what you're offering, will click on what you're saying and are interested enough to signup or take the next step.
