Product photography or Desktop publishing?

In a your industry would it be more value to use Product photography, or Desktop Publishing?

I have been thinking of using either one of these Ideas as a service business, but I keep on getting hung up on the fact of which one would be more useful to other small businesses. The reason why I keep on bouncing between these two business ideas as I have a background in both. I have loved photography and have taken classes to help become a better photographer. I also have taken digital media and desktop publishing class and enjoyed those as well. But I equally like both as a idea as I would love to start getting contracts to help avoid some downfalls in those areas which include, overcharging of customers because they do not like finale designs or that they have multiple products to be done.

Would it be more worth your money to A. Contract out Product Photography so that you may have clean, crisp, edited, product pictures with out having to worry about paying per picture or per package. Or B. would you rather have a contract with a Desktop Publisher that you can email or call in a moments notice to have a new flyer, business card, ecourse, or other products with out having to worry about an hourly rate or a project rate.

I would also like any suggestion which service you would think would be able to grow and expand to provide a wider area of services.

Just one more thing to consider. I see this a fair amount here on IH and in other communities..."to continue my dream of being an entrepreneur" is quite backwards. You are thinking of yourself first instead of the customer's needs. No customer really cares about helping you continue your dreams, and as long as you put yourself first, chances are you won't find any customers anyway. Sorry, but it is true. Customers care about solving a pain point in their lives. Identify a pain point and then build a solution to address it. Put the customer first.

Hope this is helpful in some way. Not meaning to be harsh, just telling it like it is.

    Good luck!

Product photography or desktop publishing …which service would you use more?

Neither at the moment, because you haven't sold me on it.

Think about it like this — there are millions of apps and products in the world, and I don't use 99.9999% of them, because I don't want them or need them.

If you want to be part of the 0.0001%, you have to give me a good reason to use what you've made. At minimum, that involves describing why what you've built will be valuable for me in particular, taking into account all of my other options (using a competitor or using nothing).

Perfect, this is something I really needed to hear and start thinking about it in that perspective. It would be more of what can I sale but also do good at.

With product photography allowing me to set you up on a contract biases I could be saving you hundreds a month, by not charging you per pictures or in a set of pictures, you would never have to worry about the quality of the pictures as I could retake them at anytime. If you are developing multiple products or selling on eBay it would cost 500 a month instead of the 2500 to have your 20 products picture taken and have them edited.

On the other-side I could also do this with the desktop publishing, instead of hiring a full-time desktop publisher, that can cost upwards of $40,000, to create your boxing, media, business cards, ecourses, etc etc, I would do for 1500 a month in a year long contract.

So its more of trying to provide a value instead of trying to find a value.

Much better! But you're assuming two things:

        1. That I already know that what product photography and desktop publishing are.
        2. That I already want them.

        Neither is the case.

I'll take one of your posts and re-word it for you, so you can see what it's like to be in my shoes:

With spam detecting allowing me to set you up on a contract biases I could be saving you hundreds a month, by not charging you per spammy post caught, you would never have to worry about the quantity of spam caught as I could re-run my detection at any time. If you are numerous multiple sites as opposed to just one, it could cost 500 a month instead of the 2500 to have all your forums cleaned of spam.

Is that enticing to you? Probably not.

You need to put yourself in the customer's shoes. They don't know who you are, what you're selling, or why they should care. You need to explain the basics. What is this? Who is it for? Why is it valuable to them?

Okay great, I will start working on a outline and put myself in the customers shoes and see what I can come up!

Okay thanks for the feed back, No I will not hate you for saying that the way I write sucks, I know it does. I get very scatter brain with excitement of little things (got to love that ADHD). I rewrote the article so it is hopefully more comprehensible and will continue to fix and update it. 2. Yes I need a business approach and hopefully I will be able to figure one out better, as I continue to get advice and continue working towards my goals

Perfect I am starting to work on that now so hopefully I will be able to use it to better formulate ideas, build a better service, and hopefully have something to present.
