ProductHunt question - Resubmit strategy

Hello everyone,

At Abyssale we have one primary objective > Roll out our beta, but we'd also like to close out our alpha with one last version release before closing it... we think it would make sense to launch our last alpha release on ProductHunt for multiple reasons:

  • More testers before closing our alpha
  • Traffic boost
  • Sign-Up boost

But PH also has a rule to prevent people to post each time they release a new version:

" May I post updates for things previously submitted?

Product updates must be substantial, such as the launch of a mobile app or complete product redesign with new functionality, to be considered for resubmission. There also needs to typically 6 months in between postings."

In our case, our alpha and beta will be widely different and we forecast our open beta in approx 4 to 6 months, this is why we think we are not really affected by this rule... BUT I'd like to have fellow hacker's opinions on this subject!

  • What's your take on multiple launches aka Resubmitting?
  • Did any of you ever do this? Was it worth it?
  • What is the best launch guide out there? (I've read a lot of them)
  • Do any of you would recommend one particular hunter?
  • Any other noticeable tips?

What's your take on multiple launches aka Resubmitting?

    • Why not? It's worth a try.

Did any of you ever do this? Was it worth it?

    • I haven't, yet. I have seen many other companies do it successfully.

    • If you're going to relaunch, make sure to differentiate. If you try and re-post the exact same thing six months later it won't get much traction. If you find a clear way to give more value then I think that's when you'll find that it's successful.

What's your take on multiple launches aka Resubmitting?

    • Go for it. If they feel that changes are not substantial, their team may let you know.

Did any of you ever do this? Was it worth it?

    • NO, I haven't done it but I have seen many startups doing it. And as you're saying alpha and beta will be widely different then it will be fine I guess.

What is the best launch guide out there?

Do any of you would recommend one particular hunter?

    • It's debatable that you should do it on your own or ask a famous hunter. For me, if your product is promising, they will feature it.
P.S you can find top hunters over here: https://500hunters.com/

    Any other noticeable tips?

    Best of luck.

      Thanks for your feedback.

I am aware of the top hunters listing but was more asking for specific names that stand out and are actually reachable.

We also took the time to read most of the content pushed by PH, but you can also find some good articles on IH, medium or other types of blogs for example:

And maybe one of IH members have an excellent post that they actually used as a point of reference for their own launch.
