Project = launched! (feedback wanted)

Hi all,

This is my first post here. I'm super excited to join the community. I've spent some time reading (and learning a lot) from the treasure trove of content found here and can't wait to learn even more going forward.

I've been working on a side project for a little while and finally launched it over the weekend: https://serpradar.com/

The idea behind the project is to make Google rankings more transparent by tracking publishers that dominate Google's first page.

If you're unaware, a handful of websites dominate Google in almost every industry - for example, techradar, the spruce, allrecipes, webmd, the verge, engadget and many many more. These websites are owned by a handful of mass media companies, which:

  1. Makes it almost impossible for the "little guy" to compete with.
  2. Gives the casual Google user a false perception of choice.

The information is geared towards marketers, entrepreneurs, business owners and anyone who wants love from Google.

Your feedback would be most kind 👍

So I can appreciate the fact that this is information meant to bring more transparency to search results. What im not sure about is your intentions for this website... I think its value for exposing big companies is fairly limited, there may be people interested in this type of information, and if thats the case I would maybe explore who those people are. Perhaps they need an API or CSV export, I truly don't know. Again I don't know if you did this for fun or some other reason but I'm assuming since your posting on IH your at least trying to build something that adds value to some users. In which case I definitely implore you to find out who they are and get their feedback.

Cheers for the comments. You're right. I'm trying to build something that's of value. The website, in its current state, is an MVP. As you've highlighted - I'm getting feedback from different audiences to see what strikes a chord and what doesn't before investing valuable time. I've already received valuable feedback from different sources for ways the website can be improved. So I'm taking it all on-board. Thanks :)

Just out of curiosity what type of persona has interest in this? Marketers? Researchers?

        1. 1

Primarily marketers specializing in SEO. Although this could be of interest to anyone who needs traffic from Google.

    Congrats on your project!
I think it is clear what the page is about.
It does sound a little bit like conspiracy theory to me though :D, but I admittedly don't have much knowledge about SEO.
What I am not sure is, who is this for, and how can this help besides raising awareness? Who wants to be aware, and how will that help? If you could make that more obvious, maybe by telling a story or answering this questions directly, that could help maybe.

Hey. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. I can assure you that it's not a conspiracy theory :)

The target market for the website is for anyone who owns or runs a site (on behalf of a company) that gets visitors from Google. So as long as you're trying to improve your rank for different search results, this data would be of interest. So the likes of marketers, entrepreneurs and business owners would benefit from the data as they know who they're up against when they target different search queries.

I like your point on getting across how this data would help someone through a story or by directly answering the question. I'll experiment with ways of improving the content.

      Cheers.

I believe you it is not (consp. theory), but I did want to point out that to me, it felt a little bit like it, based on the language and design(colors) of the page. Maybe that is intentional and I am not target audience, but that did make me somewhat skeptical / cautious, therefore having negative impact on me. Of course that is just how I perceived it, somebody else will perceive it differently, but hey it is a data point :).

I am glad that it helped! Now that you wrote above who is target market, I would suggest answering in that story / scenario: How would they exactly benefit from this data? You said they now know who the are up against, but how does that help? That would be something I would be looking for on the landing page. If you don't know answer to that, one way can be to talk to marketers / entrepreneurs and ask them.

        1. 2

Your point about the color scheme and it's negative impact is a valid argument. I've already got on my to-do list to change the radar banner image. But perhaps I need to think about other ways to soften the language and design. Food for thought for sure. I'll try to get some more feedback before I make any changes. Thanks again for the fantastic feed. Truly appreciated.

I think you can drill down and take this further. I think this is a great starting point for something marketers can use .. ie.. JungleScout.com

Hey Mark. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Unfortunately my coding acumen is VERY limited (i.e. Wordpress) :) So building something like Junglescout.com is beyond my ability.

When you say - 'drill down further' - in what way do you mean?

      Cheers,
      Ziggy

You show a high level look at the data; likely what the api let's you see?

Like can you drill into it more? Pull out some numbers that get people (investors) excited?

Is there something you can think of that would be useful to a business - such as dropshippers?

        1. 1

          Thanks for the clarification Mark.

In regards to your suggestion; there is no api for such data. It's a manual process of acquiring the info. So drilling into the data will be a time consuming job. I may do that in the future but I wanted to get an MVP done first to see if the concept resonates with people before I dig deeper.

At this point in time, I would say that this data is most useful to marketers. In particular those that specialize in SEO.

One idea for the site is dig deeper with a newsletter to those interested in the subject matter. But it's early days so at the moment I'm looking to see if there's interest out there and if I should invest more time in the project :)

          Cheers.
