Promote your indie hacker projects with betting challenges

Hi All,

During this world cup, I wanted to create Gurus Corner.
It took me 20 years to launch this project!
During the World Cup 2002, as I was a student, a friend and I had an ambitious project relative to live betting. But we didn’t complete it. I reopened it during the 2010 World Cup but I gave up again. I finally decided to twist this idea and allow user to create fun betting challenges.

I thought it would take me 2 weeks to do an MVP but it took me 3 additional weeks. I said to myself it should be ready before the start of the tournament, then for the 2nd week, then for the end of the 1rst round.
I try to be positive by telling myself that it's ready before (the end of) the 1/4 finals, where the tournament really begins!

Gurus Corner allows you to create betting challenge on any topics, without real money.

Feel free to bet and try. I hope you can use it to promote your indie projects, ideas, startups. For example, creating a challenge on your future number of subscribers, or on your product Hunt launch (eg the number of uplikes after 24 hours).
I created myself a challenge. Do you think I can get more than 300 users before the end of the year ?

I will keep it free for a few weeks during a test phase. Your feedbacks are welcome!

I take this opportunity to share my modest experience:
I always dreamed for a very long time to create a startup but never had the courage to go all the way long. Maybe not enough confidence.

What I learned from this experience:

  • No need to have a team, you can create a side project alone. This gave me hope to finally launch something!
  • Plan! Just because it's a personal project doesn't mean you shouldn't be organized. I think I suffered from a lack of efficiency.
  • Define what is a « must have » and what is a « nice to have » and stick to it. I knew it, but still, I was afraid my MVP wouldn’t look professional enough, and I think I've added a lot of unnecessary features.
  • Dare! For several days I found excuses not to launch it. For ex, one of my fear is that the site can be hijacked with violent content.
 Finally it is live
  • Promotion 1rst. Users will not magically arrive. I think I am afraid of negative feedbacks, but I finally :
    • created a Tiktok ad (using replicate.com and canva to create a fun AI-based video). After a few hours, I have 15,000 impressions and 70 clicks. To be continued, it's a very beginning...
    • wrote these few lines.

Do not hesitate to come back to me!

Cheers,

Etienne
