Promoters, iMessages, and Caffeine.

Let me start by saying that this post would not be possible without caffeine.

In the 30 days it took my cofounder and I to finish this project, we probably consumed 1-2 cups of coffee each per day.
This comes out to roughly 2 * 45 * 150mg caffeine = 13.5 grams of caffeine

Now that we got the important stuff out of the way, we can move on.

Sendblue was initially created for promoters, you know, the people who get paid for each girl that comes to a party at the club each weekend. In order to maximize the payout of each party, the promoters send a ridiculous amount of texts throughout the week, oftentimes personalizing each one and maybe even spending 2+ hours each weekend doing it. Of course, there are ways to automate this by using something like SuperPhone to include the recipients name in the texts, and still reaching 300+ people in 15 minutes rather than a couple hours.

However, according to my old roommate (he is also a promoter), this method reduces your hit rate, significantly. Why? Because the texts are green. So my roommate puts in the extra hours on his iPhone, ends up sending less texts, but getting a better hit rate, and earning more.

This became the original plan, save promoters precious time by giving them a blue texts service.

As any good developer does, I immediately started coding without a plan, punching away at the keyboard like i was doing a WPM typing test.

Three caffeinated days later I sent my soon-to-be cofounder a curl command. Not knowing what it was, my super responsible co-founder threw it in his terminal and let it rip. 2 seconds later, he gets a text.

At this point, It takes him all of 30 seconds to call me, convince me the promoter idea is dumb, and that instead, we should make an iMessaging API for developers since that is far more useful, and arguably a better cause anyway.

Do people need something like this? Beats me, so we built it anyway.

1̶3̶.̶3̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶m̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶c̶a̶f̶f̶e̶i̶n̶e̶ ̶ 27 days later, we finished the landing page, and have an API which is held together with spit and baling wire, and we'd like to show it to you guys to see what you guys think.
